Echo Spot has arrived...

Looks nice, sensible size, speaker is better than the Dot.

However, it's replaced a Dot in the Living Room (identical location) and now whenever you say "Alexa" the one in the kitchen bloody answers at the same time. irked

Resolved...!

One was registered to me, the other to Mrs Podie.

Now both on the same account and problem solved.

Back to trying to sort out the groups! hehe

Argh! fking things.

Created a new group called “Study” and added “Study Echo Dot” and “Study Sonos”

Ask Alexa to “play the Bee Gees on Study” and she replies that she’s “playing the Bee Gees from Spotify on Study Sonos”

Great.

Except for the fact she’s fking lying and nothing is playing...

What am I doing wrong?

I've just asked her to add sausages to my Ocado order.

She added pigs in blankets and a tub of I can't believe it's not butter hehe

She's clearly in one of those moods today.

rediscover devices if you have changed the names.

It would be nice if you could use “and” with Alexa. I realise you can set up routines but sometimes I’d like to do two things without having to wait for one to complete then asking again.

The chances of it finding anything I listen to are pretty remote...

Yep - it's a pain when you want to do more than one thing at a time.

Mine seem to have got a bit disagreeable recently. Although actually, they don't disagree - they say "OK" - they just don't actually do anything. It sometimes takes a couple of attempts to turn the TV or the lights on.

Alexa now set up with Raspberry pi. Loads of LEDs on the ports and now a relay board. Wife to be was not very excited when I told Alexa to turn on IO port but I was amazed that it all tied together

Can Alexa speak when there is an external trigger? ie door switch or low temperature?

(Determined to get my moneys worth out it).

IFTTT has loads of function like this but they’re more about lights flashing or you getting a text etc when other things happen.

Previously, when I wanted to play music on my Sonos systems, I would have to specify "Lounge Sonos"/"Garden Sonos"/"Kitchen Sonos", etc. With smart groups, I can say "play music on lounge".
I think this is just the way sonos integrates anyway, nothing to do with smart groups, it looks for the speakers name.

I can say play on living room and it will play through the sonos in the living room with no smart group in place.

I requested better Alexa/Sonos integration during the private beta trials to allow Alexa to directly stream music to the co-located Sonos system. This has not yet been implemented.

When you say co-located, are you referring to just say "Alexa play pink floyd" and it will default to playing through Sonos?
I can stream music straight to Sonos by using the room name already.

Hopefully the Sonos/alexa will implement default destinations soon as it will also remove the all speaker dip whenever you speak to any echo device.

yes - I requested that music play should default to a co-located Sonos system if Alexa is aware of it.

Oh I do like this idea. It’s probably the only feature that the Google Hub has over the Echo - it can default music to a CCA.

Have you had any indication this feature will be incorporated at some point?

Thanks for suggesting it.

Very useful - Thank you

Currently I have an Echo Plus in the Lounge and a dot in the main bedroom - looks like that will make life a little easier.

Just need to get some more suitable bulbs........
I use these bulbs (no hub required, just a phone app to name them and then ask Alexa to discover new devices).

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076SJC1JB/_encoding=U...
Thanks - for the link but I've been looking at Ikea bulbs as a lower cost option

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/lighting/smart-...

Lounge has 3 side/table lamps currently on timers and one is dimable - and 6 E14 bulbs in the ceiling lights (those are the ones I want to control as currently they are energy saving and the lowest wattage ones I could get and it's still too bright to use them so we don't - we've just added more lamps to compensate!!!

We extended the room 10 years ago and doubled the ceiling lighting to cope with double it's size in hindsight not the cleverest move
6 rooms now using IKEA Bulbs with IKEA Tradfri skill - unfortunately not the lounge as non of the IKEA stores have stocks of E14 bulbs - the internet seems to suggest June 2018 for next stock!!!

Last room to do is the kitchen which has a 5 row spot lamp set up - question is do I put all the bulbs into a group??
