Timely topic! I have just added kodi and tvaddons.ag to my firestick.
Watching films through exodus seems to work fine.
Can anyone tell me using short words and simple imagery how the hierarchy of apps and sources and kodi and addons etc all works please?
I like the sound of sportsmania - does that work through kodi as a separate thing to tvaddons, or through tvaddons as a separate thingy to exodus, or does it live somewhere else entirely?
I can get my head around the landscape.

Now you have Kodi you can download add-on's. Exodus is a free addon, Sportmania is an addon, but you'll need a subscription. Most Addons usually have their own sources so need to be installed separately. That's not an issue though as Exodus is great for movies and TV.Watching films through exodus seems to work fine.

I have found this site to be very helpful especially for step by step guides.

Kodi is the base software, a media centre that you can use to gain access to content online or you can link it to content you have within your home network (I dont use it for this so can't offer any advice sorry)Watching films through exodus seems to work fine.

Add ons are like apps that you install and use to get access to various media sources.
You can "pimp" the basic Kodi software with skins and background images to change the look of the interface. You can do this yourself or downlaod a "build" which is basically a suite of add ons and backgrounds that are preconfigured for you.
TVaddons is a basic "build" that installs some add ons for you.
You can install any add on you like to either the basic Kodi set up or a custom "build"
Bear in mind that some add ons will only work with the latest version of Kodi (at the moment this is 16.1 Jarvis), I think tvaddons uses 15.2 Isengard but I may be wrong.
Hope that helps

I am in SERIOUSLY good books at home for this. My wife now thinks I'm a genius, which is virgin territory for me.

Ok, I'll admit to being a bit naive in this area - what apps are the equivalent of Limewire and what are the legal ones ?
Google brings up loads of different apps but has nowt to help me on the legal side.
None of them are legal, although there are some arguments around whether streaming is 'technically' legal for the person watching. It is definitely not legal for the people who are sharing the content.Google brings up loads of different apps but has nowt to help me on the legal side.
All of them involve taking other peoples work and re-distributing it either for free, or for a charge to someone who isn't the original owner.
Of course, it is a personal decision as to whether you consider it morally equivalent to speeding on a deserted, well-sighted motorway, or speeding past a school at kicking out time.

Spent two hours last night trying to put Kodi onto a firestick, nightmare. You tube has hundreds of tutorials and they are all different. Good luck.
Have you tried following the youtube guide posted above by Stu-nph26?That's what I did, successfully, and I struggle to walk and chew gum simultaneously.
Blackbox OSTV / Paradox build on a firestick is all you need.
It's not THAT simple to get it on there but there is a dedicated FB group and a website with a guide on how to do it all.
I've said on other threads that these is a great solution for watching box sets, films and sport etc but it really isn't a direct replacement for Sky.
You do have to maintain it, it's not instant, you have to search for things you want, you'll get bad streams of live events, buffering and drop outs. It can sometimes be a bit of a pain.
However all things considered it's more or less free.
And to watch it, technically it's legal.
The guys streaming are the bad ones

Upon doing some more research,it would appear to be relatively easy to jailbreak my Apple TV .
It's also my cheapest option as I already own it.
Anyone tell me it's a bad idea ?
I thought Kodi didn't support Apple TV anymore? It's also my cheapest option as I already own it.

Watching a stream is not illegal.
Downloading it / saving it / storing it. Providing the stream in the first place IS illegal.
