I got an email yesterday about Google Assistant routines to say I wasn't affected but perhaps you may have been.

As above a factory reset should hopefully fix the issue, I've had to factory reset twice in my ownership of the Pixel 6 Pro since launch.

Poxy Pixel 6a has been refusing to run Assistant for a week(?) now, saying "Your Assistant needs additional downloads" and then "An error has occurred. Make sure you're online and try again."

Over and over and over again.

I've have tried all the solutions offered online;

- About 8 zillion reboots.
- Make sure Android and all apps are up to date.
- Set the default language to US English. Which I don't want.
- Reinstall Assistant, with and without data deletion.
- Force stop & reboot.
- Resync date and time.

All to no avail. I liked this phone, but I'm approaching the point of pricing up an iPhone.

Any suggestions?
I had that a couple of years back. Nothing would bring it back. Then after a couple of weeks it just went away and all was well again. Wonder whether it just needed an update to overwrite / reset one that went bad?

I know what Google support would suggest.. and It's probably what I would do at this point... Factory reset and start again.

Have you been installing third party launchers or apps that control things on the phone?
Nope. It's all very pukka/vanilla. I'm not much interested in tinkering with phones; it's just a tool.

One thing that occurs to me is it may have broken when I installed the Android 13 security update on January 5th.

Got a 7 yesterday to replace a 5, the bloody weight of the thing! Fingerprint scanner not great compared to the old rear mounted one, face unlock works as often as it doesn't...
But it's absolutely rapid compared to the 5 (hardly surprising given they used a 7 series SoC for the 5)

The 6&7 are quite hefty it's true. Only thing I don't like about my 6a. Fingerprint scanner seems to get better with use, but still glitchy with wet fingers or a dirty screen.

Afternoon all, I have recently changed from my Pixel 4XL to a Pixel 7 Pro. Overall the phone is superb, the camera is incredible, but the face unlock is useless, the fingerprint scanner is average and it sometimes just seems to throw a wobbly for no reason on apps such as Microsoft Outlook which ran perfectly on my 4XL. The software is up to date so I am just wondering if this is how it will be from now on. If so, great camera wrapped in an occasionally frustrating package.

I'm still hanging on to my 5 even though it doesn't charge via the USB anymore. Was going to get a 7 but now at the point that I may as well wait for an 8 ... I have a tendancy to prevaricate! A 7 doesn't fit in my running belt (the 5 is snug) which is an odd thing to not change a phone for but that's where I am.

If anything my face unlock is too good, I can walk past the phone and it will unlock! The finger print sensor is as good as any phone I've had, and far better than the P6 I had before.

Really enjoying my 7Pro, camera is Incredible, my biggest frustration with unlock is that the phone doesn't auto unlock when I type the pin in.

This seems to be a Google thing as my OnePlus did this without needing to press the arrow key once you'd entered the pin.

Does anyone know of a way to enable the auto-unlock once you enter the 4 digit pin?

Come here hoping someone can help me out.

Had a Pixel 7Pro since launch and the one thing that realy, really winds me up is call ending. Just had a cold call and went to end it but there's no sign of a call screen or end call button. I have to unlock the phone which then shows me a tiny call icon to press, and then in that theres a small menu. Why TF doesn't it bring up a call screen when receiving calls with a big fat end call button?

I'm hoping it's just a setting I've missed. And before anyone mentions it, I'm aware of the power button to end call feature but i'd still like to know if there's an option to force it to open the call screen when receiving calls.

I have always found on screen fingerprint scanners to be pretty crap compared to the rear mounted ones.

They are not as good sadly, and I also don't really get why it didn't get a 3d scanner for real face unlocking. My Huawei had it and it was superb.

I have found this too, a right pain it is. I can't see or find a setting to make it more normal and logical sadly. Didn't know about the power button to end a call, but do now and have set it to do so.

March feature drop has dropped

https://9to5google.com/2023/03/13/march-2023-pixel...

I however cant get my Pixel 6 to update at the moment, it keeps saying Feb update is the most recent, guessing they release updates in batches these days.

I've got a P6 Pro and looking to get an Android Auto system thing fitted into my car. If I go into Google Play it says Android Auto is installed (if I click on it in the store it says "uninstall" but there is no option to launch it, but if I go into my apps it is not there.

Any ideas as to how to launch the app?? I have gone into settings > apps > android auto and made sure it isn't "optimised" by battery settings etc.

Thanks

edit - it appears to just be "in the background" from my reading online, so no app to launch, per se...?

Just picked up some Pixel Buds Pro, it's only been a day but so far very impressed, I've always struggled a bit with in the ear buds, never found a proper fit, tended to find them uncomfy and obviously there, they fall out and I also get kind of ear fatigue.

These are great, obviously set up to work with a Pixel straight away so no farting about paring them up, they fit brilliantly, no discomfort, had them in my ear yesterday for a couple of hours and they were fine, very comfortable, touch controls are brilliant, so far I'm very impressed.

The wife picked up some Samsung Buds 2 recently, they are horrible, the fit is terrible, I couldn't get on with them and she's struggling with them too.
