I'm on Vodafone with my Pixel 6, we don't have 5G coverage where I live but whenever I'm travelling about and I go in a 5G area it works fine.
Just bear in mind you can turn the 5G off and have the phone only 4G. Might be worth checking his settings.

After the comments here I replaced my OnePlus 8Pro with a 128gb 6 Pro.

The setup process was very painful - esim started activating and then I accidentally brushed the left hand side of the screen which took me back to the previous step of the setup which then meant I couldn't activate the esim as it was already registered. After a call to EE they managed to sort it.

The restore process was a pig to get done, Google wanted to transfer via a cable. My OP8 wouldn't stay in transfer mode, it kept changing to charge mode.
Managed to get my account on there and start restoring data but it was taking ages to start. Turns out that wifi is broken on Pixel Android 12 out of the box until the April update is applied, even then it was flaky. Eventually the May update came down and it's been stable since.

Overall, it's a great phone. Battery life is excellent as is the camera. I do miss face recognition to unlock but I hear that might be in the pipeline.

Son has a Pixel 6 sim free, and cannot get 5g on Three network, what uk networks do support 5g on the Pixel 6.
He’s convinced Pixel 6 is not supported for 5g in the uk, is he right.
Thanks
Turns out he is actually on a Smarty Sim which I understand uses the Three network. A online chat with Smarty, and they confirmed Pixel 6 is not 5G supported on their network.

Not sure exactly when they came out (was a pre-order with free headphones), but my 6 battery now doesn't last through the day. Bit rubbish.

Yet, I'm on Id Mobile which uses Three's network and can get 5g in the big cities.

That seems very strange that Smarty are saying their 5g only works on some phones - really?? I'm on Giffgaff (I know that's O2) and I had to activate 5g with Giffgaff when I got my Pixel.

I can't see why they're saying 5g doesn't work on the Pixel. Switch to Giffgaff!

I'm using an ordinary Pixel. It even says on the Smarty website "The only thing you need is a 5G enabled phone, then you’re good to go." so I think their customer support got that wrong.

Under "preferred network type" is 5G selected?

I'm using the pro, just taken a look at the Smarty 5G page

Why aren't they able to do it now?

They are wrong. My 6 gets 5G no issue. Their network is the issue.

I don't understand why they're saying enabled from Android 13. What difference will that make? 5g has been around ages and they're saying it won't work on the latest pure Android phone?!

No idea but 5G on his phone with Smarty at the moment does not work, will need to wait till Android 13 is released. Its not the end of the world for him not having 5G.

I agree. In the main, for typical mobile use, 5G is pointless and you can't tell any difference. Those Smarty plans look really good value actually!

Phones are a nightmare or patents and proprietary technologies. 5g isn't 1 thing it is a hodgepodge of technologies.
All these technologies have varying levels of sensitivity around certain secrets to protect commercial interests and some aspects of security.
It used to be that for anything like 4g, WiFi calling, voice over LTE etc you needed network specific android builds. There has been a lot work to move these things out of the image build and either included by default or put into space where they can be configured by the network but there are still gaps.

Not sure what the fuss is with 5G, this is taken from my 4a5G and in the centre of Guildford.
I don't think I've had any decent speeds on 5G since it came active on my phone (with Virgin Mobile)

I've just ordered a 6 Pro to upgrade from my P20 Pro.

The P20 has been brilliant but it's really on its last legs now.

I've had my 6 pro since release, which I bought direct from Google. It's a good phone, but certainly not worth £850.

Anyway, I think I had some lemon juice squirt on the screen which has left some stains. From googling I think it's stripped the screen coating where the droplets landed. Kind of a stupid problem to have...

So I need to make a warranty claim. Can I request that they give me a new phone instead? Their options are to either send it in or take it to a EE shop for repair. I don't really want to surrender my phone and have to wait for a repair, as I'm then stuck without a phone. What do?
