It seems the launch date for the Galaxy S8 is now expected to be 29th March with the first deliveries expected around the 21st April. The cost will be about £650. It seems there will be two versions. There will (apparently) be both 5.8 and 6.2-inch screen sizes.
Plenty of other rumours about so we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to be getting one anyway!

I'm also considering one
although I had a note 7 when they came out which didn't work out too well, hopefully they will have ironed out any issues this time around.

I've had my S7e since launch pretty much and I can't fault it. I'm not sure what they can add to make me want to upgrade so I'll more than likely stay as I am.

There are a few leaked images out there, only alleged/rumour stage but they show a headphone jack (thank goodness for common sense) no home button and the fingerprint sensor moved to the back - this is to allow screen space to be maximised without making the device physically much/any bigger.

I won't be upgrading to it, but aside from the Note7 battery problem Samsung seem to have their stuff together right now - everyone bhed about plastic being used, so they are now glass/metal (imho not necessarily a good move, but its what people wanted), they are completely on top of security updates, my S7E gets one every one month, the UI is much improved and the amount of clutter has dropped.

There are many options in the android world but they consistently the premium device in any given generation.

I am not a fan of their UI, much prefer the stock android interface.

Their little escapade with the Note 7 battery issues has given further reason to avoid their devices and the result of their battery investigation i.e. battery is at fault I don't think is the correct answer as they went pop shortly after charging and they implemented a new USB interface i.e. USB 3.1 which has a lot more power available.

Stick with USB 2.0 or 3.0, avoid 3.1 until the wrinkles have been ironed out.

S, S II were fine. S3-S5 TouchWiz was at it's peak and absolutely horrendous.
S6 and S7 seemed to be great.

Samsung S devices do represent the peak of technology in a lot of areas, screen and camera for example. You do pay the price for that though.

I bought an S7 Edge just before Christmas (unintended need to upgrade!) and it's superb. It replaced an S5 and was a very significant upgrade to that in every respect.

It's hard to see what else I'll need from a phone tbh, so can't see me needing to upgrade until at least the S9 or S10.

Even my OH is impressed, and she's a dyed in the wool Apple fan (iPhone 6). If Apple would open up Facetime I suspect she's want a Samsung next.

I did the same except this is just the S7 and I had the S5 Mini.
Does everything I need and with all the problems Apple are having at the moment I wouldn't thank you for one.

So the smallest one is 5.8?

FFS banghead

I was waiting for the S8 so that I could move on from my S6 but looks like that won't be happening frown

It's only rumour at the moment.

Don't forget screen size doesn't necessarily relate to case size. The iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy S7 Edge both have 5.5 screens but the iPhone feels huge.

Yep, by the sounds of things the bezels are going to be miniscule with some saying that the larger of the too with a 6" ish screen will be the same physical size as the current S7 Edge.

I'm looking forward to it, not sure on the fingerprint scanner being on the back to the side of the camera, but heard the Iris scanner on the Note 7 was good.

Think I'll go for the plus edition, currently on the S6 Edge.. don't think I'd have kept the edge, not found any use for it, can get in the way sometimes but appears they are not bringing one out without the curves frown

The bezels are going to be tiny compared to the current S7/S7 Edge, which is long overdue. I'm expecting something like the Xiaomi Mi Mix.

I've heard it is going to me more expensive than the S7 was at launch, partly to cover the larger built in memory. If they have pushed the price up I'll be giving it a miss till the price drops.

Battery size is not meant to have increased, which is going to be interesting if the screens are larger and screens are the main battery drain.

As it is the most popular Android phone it won't be long before fully reskinned Android is available for it as a custom ROM, obviously not everybody wants to run a custom ROM, but the option is there. It is about time Google baked in a default skin option into Android.

I have read what I can find on the web, what makes me suspicious is that the failures occur shortly after the charger is disconnected. My theory is something is happening when the charger stops charging i.e. being disconnected and potentially damaging the battery with catastrophic results. If my theory is on the right track the battery is not the cause but a symptom.

I'll definitely have the larger one if thats the case. I love my Note 4 with it 5.7 inch screen and would definitely go for something decent and bigger.

Rumour is both versions will be edge, no normal version.

I always liked Touchwizz on my S2 and Note 2. I loaded a ROM based on standard Android 7 onto my Note 2 fairly recently and it felt like a backward step. I expect how close it is to what you are used to makes a big difference to how someone takes to their new phone.

I have just moved away from Samsung for the first time as their phones are too expensive now. Technology has moved on so you no longer need to buy a flagship phone to have an excellent user experience.

I quote this site a lot, but it's a great tool (phonearena):

Still, I think they should stick to the screen size they have and shrink the device further if they can.

I agree that they should make a bit smaller device instead of keeping on upping it.
