Tried to use satnav today on it and it couldn't get a fix despite high accuracy being turned on, used the gps test apps and the say the sensors are there but nothing.

Looks like I have a dud
Check that the apps have permissions for High Accuracy location. I've come across a few apps where they havent asked for certain permissions and thus havent functioned correctly. WhatsApp failed to ask me for permission to access Contacts, which was a bit odd.

Just before you stick it in the box, install AndroiTS GPS Test, and make sure its actually getting a lock at all. Apparently can take up to 45 mins outside for a first fix... One of the threads on XDA mentions turning off the assisted bits via WiFi and BT.

I'll give it a go, sticking it in the window should be good enough.

I have the spigen thinarmour and just fitted a glass screen protector my wife bought me. Fits perfectly. I try and find out the make if your interested.

The protector screen has a formed edge which means its sticks in jus the right position
Would you be able to find out please.
I suspect it's an Olixar one but it's £25 quid.
I've tried 3 different ones and no joy frown

Gave up and got a different case in the end.
I'm honestly not being facetious, but why are you grudging 25 quid to protect a 700 quid device?

Because the one I bought for my S6 was £6 from my local phone shop and worked perfectly with any case.
It's my first curved screen device, which is the annoying thing.

Get a Spigen NeoHybrid, superb fit and finish. Ample protection without adding bulk.

Bit of an update.

I went for the Ringke case from Amazon, and really impressed. Fits very well and much grippier. Doesn't seem to add much size to the phone either.

I also went for a USB C to memory card adaptor, for popping in external cards from say my gopro/camera. Works very well!

Very happy with the phone so far

How are folks getting on with the S8?

Pretty well decided that an S8 is the right thing to replace my much loved S5. The S5, to be fair, is still a reasonable phone. But with built-in obsolescence and minor surplus in my bank account, I can't see many other options!

I'm about to push the button on a sim free S8 from either Costco online (£630) or Dixons at LHR (£633). Best prices I've seen around for a full UK handset. There may be better but not found them yet!

It's ok, I use it a lot so it gets charged twice a day, also have an iphone which just looks piss poor next to it.

Two issues, bixby button! and I can't seem to write a text on it without everything coming out like one massive word oh and it changes perfectly valid words in auto correct which is infuriating. for example Hi how have you been might come out Hi how could you be.

I found a screen protector that works with the Spigen armour case.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0727TVMYT/ref...

It's a film one but works well and I notice no issues with typing etc.

I'm having the same issue. trying to decide do I lay £600 on a sim free, S8 or less on an S7.
My trusty S4 is still going strong, will be four years old in july and it just won't break.. even dropped it corner down onto tarmac from chest height in Oz last year (walking into a drive through bottle shop.. biggrin ) picked it up and it was as right as rain. It still has the shipping film on the screen too - yes, i'm one of those.. laugh

From the Dixons in T5 last week I got myself an Orchid Grey S8 and fancy folding Samsung case (whatever it's called). They had them on display a couple of weeks prior, but they were missing. Strange. I asked and they did have 'em int stock for the same price (£633), and I got the comment "Oh, yeah, we had to take them off display". Very odd. They had about 15-20 handsets in the cupboard of both sizes and colours.

It really is a lovely thing but it's a shame the delicate nature means that a case is a necessary evil. Like a sports bra. My S5 went case-less for three years and survived a few drops n dings. The all glass nature of the S8 doesn't give me any confidence that it would survive a plummet from the top bunk of a bunk bed onto a hard wooden floor like the S5 did. Performance is good and snappy; unsurprisingly it's appreciably better than the old phone. That screen is super awesome!

Not entirely certain it would be a worthwhile upgrade from an S6 or S7, but definitely from an older generation of handset. No regrets.

Luke.

Still enjoying mine and definitely the nicest phone I've had to date, however I have a couple of moans:

1. Bixby - I still can't seem to get out of the habit of pressing the button instead of the volume down or squeezing it in error when I'm pressing the power button.

2. I keep getting it out of my pocket only to find it's written a random message to someone (but never actually sent it) or has played through a number of Youtube videos in succession. On occasion someone will ask me if I can hear talking, it's usually my phone playing a video.

Not sure why number 2 is happening, I have the device set to turn off the screen automatically and pretty much always do it myself anyway, it's configured to stay unlocked while at home and if it's near my watch but that only turns off the pattern lock, it doesn't keep the screen on. I have the on-body detection disabled.

Still it only happens now and again and luckily I don't tend to have anything embarrassing in my playlists smile
