Anyone know an easy way of getting all my PB images saved onto my laptop? A load are on there that were taken from an old one just before it died
I assume then no backup on a local HD? Backup, then backup again. Then backup up them backups. Seriously. So easy to lose stuff.atom111 said:
You can download albums from the web interface

Thanks for that, I've managed to download to my office computer as it has no ad blocker which stops me seeing them on my home one. But gees, what a bloody mess of a site with all the adds.http://support.photobucket.com/hc/en-us/articles/2...

I've owned my own domain name and run my own web server since 1997, mainly because i'm a techie but mainly because the URL and my email address will never change as i own it (the domain) and nobody can hold me to ransome.
Been seeing a few people say this over the years with regards pictures. How does this work then? I need to buy my desired name and space on a server or something? Register somewhere, deal with attacks and hacks or that the server owners responsibility etc. etc. ?NoIP said:

...or Flickr.com
Flickr isn't free once you go over your small storage limit. Well I say "small" - it is if you like your hi-res photos but if you only take photos in potato resolution then I suppose it would last a while.I've used Imgur since just after they started and never had any issues. There are no restrictions at all once you create an account. In fact I just checked an old thread I started on an aviation site back in 2009 and my embedded imgur photos are still showing . Definitely the best of the free sites imho. The only thing I don't like is the albums. Moving your photos about is a bit clunky and intuitive but once you figure out the knack it's easy to navigate around.
People are still using Photofkit...?
Binned it off years ago, it was so slow and pop-up-tastic - kept trying to get me to buy prints of pics all the time as well as being terrible to navigate. In fact, it's a turd of a site. And now it's shot itself in both feet!
As others have said you can download all your pictures in one go into a zip file to save locally (or that's what I did when I gave up on it all those years ago, I presume the process is still the same). Move everything to Imgur, it's a million times better.

I hate to think how many fora this will impact; think how many 'How To..' and build threads will now just be filled with the 'No 3rd party' image above...!
It brings back up an interesting conversation about how, despite living in an age where we can make/take and share more writing and pictures than ever before, we'll actually be a 'black hole' to future generations. We're able to read books, documents and look at pictures from hundreds or thousands of years ago; will people in another 500 years be able to see or read all the pictures and documents we've created? We no long print things out, we're storing digitally - think about documents you put on floppy disk only 20 years ago, it would be a challenge to recover that even today...

I'm surprised there wasn't more outrage when Dropbox did it? That was a massive pain in the arse for me, I'd stopped using photobucket years ago.
I've never really used Dropbox for image hosting, more for backup. However, the capacity is limited and I'm in the process of migrating everything to Google Photos/Drive which has about 7x more space for free.Edited by Funk on Thursday 29th June 10:12

Very much so. We are creating more content than the rest of history put together, but it will all be lost in a generation. It brings back up an interesting conversation about how, despite living in an age where we can make/take and share more writing and pictures than ever before, we'll actually be a 'black hole' to future generations. OTOH, most of it is nonsense, and I suspect that the important stuff will remain. I do wonder how many people born today, when they get to their 50s, will have any pictures left of them as kids etc, or of their parents.
I use Flickr. I remember Photobucket and Imageshack actually, messed up my photos ruining many of my threads
Much better quality on Flickr.
There is a limit, yes, 1TB.
I've uploaded (apparently) 2182 photos. Most of which are taken on DSLR and uploaded in full size.
After being edited my software package has a pretty good compression algorithm and most full res photos are around 7Mb without losing any noticeable quality.
Apparently I've used 0.9% of my free space.
