people don't really care about the 8, it's all about the X
for many the Iphone is a trendy accessory and to own the 8 screams poor
someone at my work is literally getting an 8 and using it until the X arrives in order to have the latest and greatest
It's actually quite sad, if they swapped them around in price, saying "this, the 8, has TouchID, that's why it's more expensive", people would flock to that one.

Marketing done right.

Having used an S8 for the last 2 months, the lack of fingerprint unlock on the front of the phone is the reason I didn't go for an X.
It's annoying to have to pick the phone up and look at it (or with the S8, use the fingerprint on the back) when 50% of the time it is just sitting on the table.

Just got back from collecting my phone from store. Hugely disappointed in Apple. The store was not busy at all and they still managed to mess my order up, bring me the wrong persons products and then have to refund everything and start again as the guy had no clue how to use the POS machine.

Terrible experience, I can't even be bothered to get the phone out the bag as I think I'd be better off just paying £150 and getting the screen and battery replaced on my 6+.

Not sure. I'm getting an 8. Due for an upgrade and not in love with the X and it's face recognition.
If it works and it saves time then I don't see the problem.

The X seems to be an actual upgrade from the 7 imo, the screen is really nice

as I predicted seems that no one cares about the 8 and there's no queues:

Not sure I'd call a simple mistake a 'terrible experience'

Ok, fair enough.

Ikea are launching an interesting AR app.
Really looking forward to playing with that (and happy to admit that yes, that is a deeply sad thing to admit).
This is why I like that Apple has got behind AR. Sure, I doubt any of these apps will ever be essential but I reckon it'll have all manner of useful/neat applications.

So you had to put up with a small mistake, you now have your new phone and you feel like you can't be bothered to open it? Oh the humanity! hehe

You got the condensed version.

Basically I was there as a business customer. I placed my order through the business team and was told when I arrived I needed to ask for a member of the business team to process my order.

I arrived, did as I was told and was told none of them were in today and what could they help me with. I explained.

Got put with a guy who was usually an Apple Genius. He explained he wasn't too sure about the POS but could I bear with him. I did for all of 20 minutes whilst he tried to find my reservation.

The first phone that came out was the wrong size and colour.

That was returned and the correct phone was brought out to me. Good.

Then he had to spend another 20 minutes trying to find my watch reservation. That came out.

He then needed my ID which I gave and he needed to see the payment card which I gave him.

He then said that was all good. I then checked to make sure that the spend was allocated to my business account and he didn't have a clue.

He got a manager who said it wasn't possible. So I said well my business rep said it was, he's not shown up so go ask him.

They asked him and yes it was possible.

BUT

They had to refund everything and start again.

I couldn't have the same phone or watch and they needed to check the stock levels to make sure they had enough to re-sell me.

10 mintes later they bring out a fresh watch, fresh phone.

In the mean time I got a receipt to my email to say I had successfully purchase the WRONG phone, the original phone that was the wrong colour and storage size that I declined? Yep I'd been charged for that.

I then had to figure out how I was supposed to pay for my THIRD iPhone of the day, second watch as their refunds can take 3-5 working days to show up back on my payment cards.

Eventually it all got refunded. I had receipts and then we started again to purchase the correct iPhone & Watch and allocate the spend to my business account.

I was in store for 1.5 hours and had to deal with 4 different members of staff. None of whom was my business account manager who said he was specifically going to be in store to deal with my order.

So no, it's not a simple mistake and now I'm £2k down o n my credit card whilst I wait for the refunds to hit my account.

ashleyman, at Cornell University they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the Tunneling Electron Microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building blocks of our universe. ashleyman, if I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest in your problem.

With the first point I meant that I would not immediately know how to perform specific tasks (e.g. settings) or know the names of all of the apps, and so on. I am fully aware of the basic use of an iPhone, because it is *the same* as any other modern smartphone, i.e. not magically different.

Why are the staff applauding and cheering in the video? Or is it because they're just happy that people have actually turned up to buy a phone?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4909384/Ba...

Also looks like they over anticipated the number the potential customers by about 10 staff members to 1 customer lol.

:cringe:

As for the overstaffing, going to the states these apple stores are insane. I often go to the Portland area, where there's at any time at least 15 blue shirts standing in the store eek. Wouldn't want to calculate the cost per hour for that. How much does the average genius earn? hehe

I've seen the figures for this! They're actually searchable smile

It's quite impressive how much each member of staff turns over.

Like I said, I'm often there during the day and I'm always nearly alone. All the stores have minimum occupation but the apple store is just crowded with their staff. I always bring our apple gear from there as it's VAT free biggrin.

AR is such a big thing, I mean, it is huge. Look at how Pokemon Go is increasing in popularity. Oh, wait .... in reality it is still a niche, and will likely remain niche.

If TouchID had problems, they actually think that the FaceID will be perfect? Of course it will be, as Apple never get things wrong on release ....
yes The first Android phone with full AR support (rear facing depth sensing camera) was released November last year. So Apple are a year behind.. The second Android phone with full AR support was released in July this year. There hasn't been a massive take up of the technology by any of the mainstream phone manufacturers using Android.

However, ARCore was only recently announced after ARKit. So the pissing war can go both ways.

It will all depend on the Apps that are developed. With iOS 11 being deployed to an enormous base, it would be foolish to believe that any clever AR uses won't be targeted at the iPhone to start with. If you are a developer it's all about the numbers and ease of implementation.

ARCore has nothing to do with the phones mentioned. They are Project Tango phones.
