I've recently bought the iPhone 7+ (due to wanting to come back to Apple, and the fact my drone works much better on iOS) and I'm curious to see what iOS 11 has in store. Has the release date been put back?

the iPhone can be unlocked within a few hundred milliseconds and it allegedly works even when the device is lying on a table.
hmmm, not sure I'd call any of that highly reliable.

Interesting thought in one of the comments:

So...if the police have your phone and want to unlock it they just point it at your face now?
I have nothing to worry about but i suggest anyone concerned just pull a silly face. Im sure it will also have a virtual home button and the face recognition can be turned off smile

This gives more insight into iOS 11's added security layers.

Apple are usually pretty good at getting things to work, so I’m sure FaceID will be no issue at all. Sure, some people will probably manage to find some situations where it won’t work but it’s not as if you can’t do that with TouchID.

I think most of the ‘leaks’ aren’t leaks at all, Apple know exactly what they’re releasing as it builds hype around the device. For instance, the most recent leak was just after a Samsung press release saying they’d sold a record number of Note phones.

I’m looking for ward to the event tomorrow (I’ll be watching it as yes, I am that sad) but I don’t hold out much hope that the iPhone X will tempt me away from Android. For me, iPhones always seem to be nice, but not class leaders or pioneers in hardware terms. I guess that’s not anything new though.

Samsung are, matter of fact a corrupt, criminal enterprise. Do your own research. I would never buy their product.smile

Um... was that aimed at me or in general?

I know about Samsung’s legal issues. I don’t own a Samsung phone. I might buy one in future, but it’s nice to know you wouldn’t.

They all steal tech off each other and try and sue the pants off each other for patent infringement. That's just business, who cares.

I know. Not what I'm on about. They control the judiciary and government, all major infrastructure in Korea and don't pay taxes either. All down to bribery, corruption and thuggery. Believe what you want. And they also steal Ip as you thought. wink

More than likely - I do like the latest iPhone and feel pathetic as a result!

But my iPhone 7 is absolutely mint, it does everything I could possibly need.... So I feel less tempted.

I haven't read anything about the new iPhones, is the X better than the 8? Not sure of the difference.

X is the flagship 10 year edition, 8 annual improvement instead of 7S for some reason.

Thanks....

So the X will be better than the 8? Different features?

I'm with other posters in that I probably don't need the latest shiny thing from Apple - my 7 is more than enough. But there's a childish level of enjoyment in owning these things.

I guess we'll find out this week.

Apparently the 8 is as per the 7 with fingerprint scanner remaining (but with faster internals presumably) and the X is as shown with no bezels. It also doesnt have fingerprint scanner and has a face scanner instead. It will have a 'virtual' home button too apparently.

Rumours are the X will be over $1000 so over £1000 here. Thats insane if true.

The line up should end up as below;

Ah! Understood - thanks. X for me then. Probably. Almost certainly. Maybe.

See above. That X was just a concept, the 99.9% certainty (based on part leaks etc) is now in my post correctly.

iPhone X said to have a 5.8inch Oled screen (larger than the screen on a 7 plus) and only be slightly larger body than the standard 7. I had the 6 plus and just could not get comfortable with the size but did miss the screen when I changed to the 7. The 'X' would be perfect for me if the 'leaks' are true. There you are, I've managed to justify it to myself already, roll on Friday for the order to be placed smile

£1k for a phone though... I mean jeez. If it's $999 price tag is true it's pretty much a certainty it'll be £999 here too "because of Brexit" etc (remember Apple hiked their prices due to that). Cue someone pointing out that tax is calculated per state so $999 isn't the final price (but it could be in some places), etc.
