There are also those who have been waiting for something like the X for quite a time. Much bigger screen, same physical size phone.
Then they will still be waiting. This phone is bigger than a non-plus phone and the usable screen (go read the HIG) is actually not that much better than a normal phone. For example the X screen offers no usable width improvement for app developers as the far left and right are outside the safe areaWell, I bit the bullet yesterday and upgraded from a 6S 64 Gig to a similar 8, with a £195 trade-in for the 6S. About 40 gig of data on the old phone, backed up to the Cloud, downloaded to the new phone in about 10 minutes. The Aberdeen Apple store staff were really good and free coffee and doughnuts appeared during my visit.
As many have said above, this upgrade certainly wasn't necessary, as the 6S was still pretty good, with the battery replaced by Apple last year - but the new phone is night-and-day better in speed; and the camera works amazingly well in low light. Will be interesting to see how the battery life compares with the old one.
Downside is that Skype seems to be sulking and crashes; and I've spent most of the morning writing in passwords etc to banking apps etc.

Nice. The draw for me really is the camera. I'm always snapping the kids doing something and I have the 6+As many have said above, this upgrade certainly wasn't necessary, as the 6S was still pretty good, with the battery replaced by Apple last year - but the new phone is night-and-day better in speed; and the camera works amazingly well in low light. I think the fact I can have whatever 8 I want today speaks volumes.
The 7 was a long wait for collection in store if you didn’t order on day of release if I remember correctly.
I recall similar with the 6S no queue as people wanted the big upgrade so it was the 7 for them. I guess the 8 has been launched in what is mid cycle for many people who always get the new model so to these people in effect the 8 is what should be the 7S. The 7 was a long wait for collection in store if you didn’t order on day of release if I remember correctly.
Maybe people are waiting for the X and see it in the flesh before splashing out.

I wonder what 7's might be worth?
I might sell mine rather than pass it on - 128, unused headphones (still coiled in box), boxed and not a mark on it. I usually pass my phones down the family line, but they're maybe a bit too valuable now to do that.
Agreed. It's getting too good to give to a 9 yo. You can get 400 notes for that phoneI might sell mine rather than pass it on - 128, unused headphones (still coiled in box), boxed and not a mark on it. I disagree. The physical size is almost no bigger that the 6/7/8 and the screen real estate is significantly more. I’m looking forward to it.
Go read the Human Interface Guidelines for the X. Developers cannot disguise the rounded corners. Or the notch. Or the pull up tab for the virtual home button. So you lose the width of the corner radius from both sides, the height of the pull up indicator off the bottom and the extra tall status bar off the tophttps://developer.apple.com/ios/human-interface-gu...

The like the X but it's basically a Plus in a smaller package, right?

You’d be mad to lose £400 just to get one if you feel that way about said £400.

Getting a new iPhone is one of the smaller pleasures in life and I am very tempted by the X. But an absolutely mint and perfectly competent 7 is dulling the desire a little.
