Yes it does: $$$
I don't think it's that simple. They also fairly recently changed ports, and a lot of people buy into the "connector". I know a couple of people who changed phones after they dropped the 30 pin and for them it was a bit "it doesn't matter, I have to change all my cables anyway".
Then they showed the lightning port, by a lot of measures a very good port then and still is now, changing it now could upset some loyal customers.
I find it annoying as now we have 3 chargers, we ditched the 30pin a couple of years ago luckily. But now we have Micro USB (older smartphones), USB C (new smartphones) and lightning port (iPhone). But if you have a purely iPhone household, you can do with only one. I'm very certain that changing ports would put a lot of people off upgrading.

Unless they give a free adapter away with every phone? Though that would still be a bit annoying I think..Tycho said:

The cable situation is shocking and now extends to headphones too. Guess Apple won as I still spent £130 on wireless headphones when I got the iPhone 8 and Apple Watch 3.

They haven't removed it from the iPhones. If you need TouchID then you can get the 8.ashleyman said:
I've changed my post to add the word 'latest'. Hopefully that should help generate some serious answers.
No one so far has managed to reliably get a fingerprint reader to work through a screen. The alternative would be to put the reader on the back, but this would 1) not look 'Apple' and 2) be copying every other manufacturer out there.
I think Apple's ultimate goal is to have a phone that is literally just a screen - no buttons and no ports (wireless charging and bluetooth audio only).
Once someone works out how to read fingerprints through a screen, TouchID will be back.

Sony have their fingerprint ID in the on/off button. The alternative would be to put the reader on the back, but this would 1) not look 'Apple' and 2) be copying every other manufacturer out there.

Have you ever known Apple to reintroduce technology they've taken out? They made quite a big fuss about the security improvements purportedly in FaceID, over TouchID. The idea that they're reintroduce it seems unlikely in that context.

They would look stupid saying 'we have brought back this inferior and less secure feature'.
Iphone 8 will be the last of Touch ID.

The 7 is 95% of the X.
It's got a bigger screen than a 7+ in a smaller phone. It's a lot faster. But whether that matters at all depends on what you want it for - an original iphone is 100% of an X if you just make phone calls with it... At what? Is it even a noticable difference outside of a spreadsheet or graph?
I bet its not.

I went from a 6+ to an 8+ and the difference between the 2 is huge. At what? Is it even a noticable difference outside of a spreadsheet or graph?
I bet its not.
From simple things like unlocking the phone to loading up a web page the 8+ is much faster.

Apple Pencil? Jobs:"If you see a stylus, they blew it"Fingerprint sensors in general are unobtrusive and ergonomically feel "right", because they're similar to buttons that we know and love. FaceID is literally more "in your face", and I don't think the alleged security improvement will make any real-world difference. You've still only got a 1:10000 PIN as backup if you can't use FaceID.

As said before, my phone is unlocked before I even look at it due to putting my print on Touch ID on the way out of the pocket. Face ID cant be quicker.
