Ok, migration tips?
Usb c pe+ quick chargers for car and home?
Decent adblockers?

The phone is ordered and paid for already so not much point in telling me it's no good, especially without knowing anything about it.
Cctv apps will be ivms-4500, hik connect and a few lens calculators, fing, speedtest, csl dualcom and pyronix homecontrol.

You can even make Android look and behave like an IOS device. Not 100% but certainly 80-90% depending on how long your willing to spend on it.
But that's the point with IPhone, you don't need to spend time on it and you don't need much technical expertise.

You do need to spend £'s tho.

The Pixel 2 XL will be about £700-800. A lot less than the £11xx

Move as much as you can to google platform (contacts, calendar, photos,...) if you don't already use it.

Makes going back and forth between platforms relatively straightforward.
Just avoid Apple services as they are nearly impossible to use without an apple device.

I've been trying to use this for ages but cant get it to work with my cam setup.

I use an app called "IP Cam" that doesn't look half as nice as Tiny Cam but it works.

My setup is 4x Swann cams which I access using a domain name.swanndvr.net, username and password and a channel number 0-3.

on tiny cam pro it doesnt seem to allow me to enter a channel number

Yeh, if I select Swann it lists models of which mine isn't listed.

on IP Cam its set up as "DVR Mobile port" and points towards the mobile port 18004

I just cant find a way of getting this to do the same.

I agree with others here. If you are jumping with a £160, you are going to fall into the hole.

FWIW I don't feel either the iPhone or Samsung are valu for money at their top end devices but they lead the market so you either pay up or don't.

Thankfully there is ni BIK liability for company phones yet so I will just pick what I consider best at the time. Currently it is the Note 8 but Apple have very nearly caught up now.

On my next jump it may well be back to IOS.

Agreeing with others without reading what i actually posted or having any knowledge of the actual device being discussed. Ok receiving you loud and clear.
Never mind the fact that 1. It isn't a £160 phone. Its on a pre order sale plus i have credit with the retailler which is why i'm only spending £160
2. It has a decent spec and every single person who has tried one and shared their opinion on it is universally positive
3. As already stated its ordered and paid for.
4. It is only for me to see if there is anything I do in a working day isn't compatible with android. If android suits and this device doesn't blow me away i'll buy a note 8 or similar and give this one to my daughter. If android doesn't suit i'll buy an iphone x and give the elephone to my daughter. If the elephone is decent my daughter will have to keep her hudl with the broken screen.

Sorry, looks to be a well specced mid range phone, never heard of the brand despite being in the sector for years getmecoat

I don't think there's anything that either device could do you couldn't with the other.

I'd have to find a way for torrents and WiFi scanning going back to iOS but other than that I couldn't think of anything. In terms of functionality, the iPhone has caught up. In terms of smoothness, and useability Android has caught up.
Imho it's all much of muchness at this point, but Android offers a wide range of devices and some more VFM offerings.

Good luck, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask them. Especially if there's anything that feels more convoluted to achieve, usually there's a better or different way. Switching between the platforms can be a bit frustrating in the beginning.

Thanks. Has the adblock situation on android moved on any since i last looked?
Are qualcomm quickcharge chargers compatible with the mediatek pumpexpress rapid charging system or do i need to hunt for one of those? There are almost non existant, only one I can find is the blitzwolf.
What is the best alternative to imessage? And facetime, i facetime my mrs a lot to spezak to my daughters, needs to be something easy to use from an iphone my mrs isn’t technical at all.
Looking forward to using sdr touch from the phone instead of having to get the laptop out.
Anything for creating a slip connection via an otg usb rs232 converter to some legacy hardware?
Is connecting to a vpn still a pain in the hole or have they made that slicker?

As you may be able to tell from my spelling the touchscreen on my iphone is getting terrible. It takes about 5 hard presses before it registers a full stop or anything else around the bottom left and other keys register a double press even when you only press it once. Apple quality is declining.

Everybody I know has been using whatsapp for quite some time. Same with skype for video calls. Big pro is that you can take out any laptop (Mac or Windows) and use either as well.
I was honestly quite surprised by the uptake of "facetime" (brilliant name for it, truly), as we've been using skype years before.

Iirc you can do video calls with whatsapp and a number of other apps but on slower connections we always had most succes with Skype.

just thought I'd update this a bit, the elephone is an amazing device, outclasses my iPhone 6s+ in a lot of areas, the screen is stunning, absolutely phenomenal, and the touchscreen is every bit as responsive, typing is much faster and more accurate. The thing is pretty much the size and shape of the iPhone, but it's like nearly all screen, and the screen is just fking stunning, makes the iPhone look like watching 720p tv compared to a 4k uhd film, technically it's not as big a gap but in day to day use its noticeable.
The battery lasts a full day of heavy work use, 7 hours screen on time, using Waze, watching YouTube, streaming radio, lots of viewing 4k CCTV camera streams, Fing sniffing. Fing is about 3 times faster on this device than the iphone, and all my day to day processes are snappier than the iPhone. The fingerprint scanner is faster and more accurate on my dirt ingrained badly constantly chapped from climbing towers and ladders hands.
Camera stills are more detailed than the iPhone, but sometimes the autofocus is slooooooow, sometimes it is rapid. The flash is punchier than the iPhone one. 4k video is sharp and the mic picks up really well but the frame rate seems to slow down randomly sometimes it's smooth sometimes not.
Downsides are 1: I can't work out how to enable WiFi calling, the menu option isn't where it should be. This could be a deal breaker as the signal is almost non existent in my house, although this picks up a usable signal in my bedroom where my iPhone doesn't.
2: sometimes the GPS position is about 10 metres west of where I am. Rock solid tracking but always the same off which confuses Waze for the first wee while until is seems to correct itself. I don't know if this is a setting or a calibration needing adjusted somewhere.
3 I'm not sure I like android so much, the whole back button thing, some of the apps looking a bit naff, fingerprint not working for BOS online banking which I use several times a day, is that a device thing or an android thing?
4 one of my Hotmail accounts which I have had since Hotmail was launched and still use a lot, it never seems to work properly on any android device, contacts and calender won't sync and it won't work on push email. It works perfectly on every iOS device.
5 Mrs doesn't like Skype and WhatsApp.
I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't think a note 8 is £700 better than this phone, to be honest if this phone had a Samsung badge and a £600 price tag apart from the camera I don't think many people would complain.
I have compared the screen on this to my brother in law's 8+ and we both agree it's night and day so that's out the window, and I still think the X price is abusive lunacy.
Time will tell.

galaxy s6 edge plus, your phone can't be rooted for it to work, it's possible BOS limit its operation depending on device/firmware for security.

Same as with the banking apps, iirc some providers allow this by device. We have a provider here that'll only do it on a selection of iPhones and Samsung devices. Bonkers.

Also, aluminium phones have notoriously bad inherent reception. My Nexus 6P has worse reception than my wife's phone that's half the price, and my friend's Galaxy Note beats them both. I suspect the iPhone 8 will be better than previous gens (anyone who upgraded want to comment?) because of this.

Hmm, seen this in several other (cheap) devices. GPS positioning isn't always great.

Probably devices. Big chance the banking app has a selection of defined devices it works with. Usually Samsung, Apple, Nexus, the usual suspects. Big bummer tbh.

Are you using the gmail app or another mail app? Never had this issue with the gmail app.

Just to jump onto this thread instead of starting a new one.

Thinking of getting a Samsung S8+ (and 256gb sd card) instead of the iPhone X.

I see there are some apps to hook into AirPlay etc. Do they work well?
(I've an Air Port Express for music, and an Apple TV)

I know iMessage isn't available, but is there anything else I'll miss from swapping?

I don't really want to root/faff with the phone at all.
