iOS 11 - who's upgrading?
Discussion
well the latest and greatest 11.2.1 has severely impacted battery life, losing around 50% overnight, and nothing being used.
Tried to backdate to 10.3.3 but as Apple are no longer signing this, it cant be done through Itunes, and most of the software that says it can do, well, it cant do it.
So I'm stuck with a battery eating, unresponsive (slow to react) bloody Iphone 6.
Pissed doesn't come close.

That’s weird. My 7+ was fully charged at 22:00. It’s now on 91% (09:12) after a quick look at FB & the news.Tried to backdate to 10.3.3 but as Apple are no longer signing this, it cant be done through Itunes, and most of the software that says it can do, well, it cant do it.

Absolutely no guarantee this will work.
I found it did. Mine was OK then went funny, which was annoying. Initially it was bad but checking battery usage it was photos re indexing. All was fine in the world after the reindex (new file system as well??). Then a 11.x update it went a bit funny. Not Beta.
Ran the phone till it turned off, it sat at 40% for over a day. Restarted and it fired up with 8% or so, ran that flat. Plugged in to recharge and reset. Then full charge.
You could try a simple reset, seems 11 has introduced a handy Off in the setting rather than a multi button push.
But backup first.

Seems Apple have been a bit cheeky with managing battery degredation

Same thing happened to me but fortunately I found a support site with 10,3,3 and reinstalled it. All is well now.Tried to backdate to 10.3.3 but as Apple are no longer signing this, it cant be done through Itunes, and most of the software that says it can do, well, it cant do it.

Been trying to get through that thread. If I have this right, there are claims that degraded batteries, the phone throttles the CPU? This could be low power, throttled, poor battery condition after many recharges, throttled?https://www.macrumors.com/2017/12/18/geekbench-iph...
Lots of stuff from apps that show low scores to high scores and stuff in-between?
Still wading through it. Happen to have geek bench 4 in a freebie giveaway and my score looks healthy, though not run the battery one yet.

How do other manufacturers compare I wonder?
Doing loads of similar stuff, often less in the spotlight because Apple.Other than that, iPhones do have a relatively small battery, which they can get away with because of better hardware/software integration.
Some listed:
iPhone 8: 1900 mAh
iPhone 8+ : 2691 mAh
Galaxy S8: 3000 mAh
Galaxy S8+: 3500 mAh
Pixel 2 XL: 3500 mAh
Oneplus 5: 3300 mAh
LG V30: 3300 mAh
So it's admirable that they can get similar battery life in some scenarios to the big boys.
However, they can't get away from the fact that a (Samsung?) screen is a screen for example, and will still use as much battery in an iPhone than in anything else at the same brightness.
Because of that they are hit a lot harder by, let's say 20% battery degradation.
Keeping batteries that small saves them millions in production, as well as keeping the phone slim.
TL;DR : their batteries are small, have several clever workarounds but don't work in all scenarios.

When I say tricks, in the days of gadgetry etc. smart moves I think rather than dodgy dealings?
