I'm having to switch from my Nexus 6P to a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge tonight as Google are refunding me for my Nexus 6P.

Dreading it...

Cant wait for Pixel XL 2 to arrive.
It’s not that bad, but it will probably feel a little rough around the edges compared to stock android, and you’ll probably I’d wager find the 6p a smidge snappier. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed by the camera, battery life or screen though.

I always turn down the 'animations" in developer options on android it speeds them up.
Hadn't felt the need to try this before, but as a result of this thread thought I would. Does seem to have made it quicker.

Made the mistake of trying it at 10x just because....would probably be beneficial for my dad! smile

Yeh I tried 10x haha its awful.

Some manufacturers remove this option in developer options.

Yeah it will be a downgrade from a note 8 but should be an upgrade compared to the 6p. Even though I’ve had 18 months to get used to it I’m still not sold on the curved edges.

I’m going to try 10x animation now for a laugh

12 hours with the S7 Edge and I hate it already haha. I have removed everything Samsung as best as possible, running Action Launcher that is set up to look like a Pixel.

I find it slightly laggy compared to my 6P.

About what I expected tbh. I like my S7 Edge, but I don't love it. The bloatware and lag are what let it down, ultimately. I support iPhones in my job and its very noticeable how much faster they are than my own not exactly cheap phone!

In other news, the vendor of my Air seem fairly confident that they can fix my laptop, if not, they have said they will replace it.

Tough crowd on the phone.

I'd love to see what you guys use it for where lag becomes so noticeable. Mine stacks up very well against iPhones I've seen.

(Fingerprint recognition isn't as good - though that may be the screen protector I have on the S7).

Just things like camera sometimes, seemingly at random, taking quite a long time to open. Randomly taking a long time to unlock. Certain applications freezing for no apparent reason. Micro-stutters on the animations. Randomly taking a while to go back to the homescreen after pressing the button.

All that makes it sound really bad, but in actual fact, the phone mostly runs quite well in spite of the above, but whenever I've had Nexus phones in the past, they were very noticeably much snappier / smoother than their Samsung equivalents (and the same goes for iPhones IMO).

It's not a massive problem, but its a problem that really shouldn't be there IMO.

Lets not even go there with the bloatware.

Agreed.

I’m no fanboy either way, but I’ve never experienced anything like what’s being described with my S6, and that’s even in comparison to the iPhone 6, 6s & 7.

Admittedly, I’ve got no crap on my phone, and I’m running Nova Launcher.

Edit: the bloatware point is valid though, but even then, I just disable the stuff I can’t uninstall, and shove it away to the side.

I've had loads of Samsung phones, and they all lag. Whether or not you notice it, or even care, I don't know, but its pretty obvious in day to day use (and I am using Nova Launcher as well and am not a massive app user either).

If you don't notice it then I'd suggest don't use something like a Google Pixel, because if you do, you will definitely notice the difference afterwards.

Also, I would re-iterate that when you write the problems down, they make it sound worse than what they really are in reality. But there's no denying for me that the phone seems to clearly run faster sometimes than others, and this is the lag I am describing. If you don't notice it then probably best you don't go looking for it smile

So, I sent this back. They couldn't find the fault. But luckily, they're replacing it with another one, same spec, but better condition... lets see how that goes!

Hope you have better luck... mine has been 100% reliable, used every day for 4+ years, not a single problem.

Apologies but thread Hijack, saves me starting a very similar thread,

I have an opportunity to buy a 2015 macbook pro 13inch retina. it has the 128gb (flash drive which i think is the same as ssd) 8gb ram and is in an absolute impeccable condition. the gentleman selling it barely used it and has it encased in a leather case so there are no scratches or chips.
He wants £650, although i reckon I could knock off £50. I would use it to edit a few old dv cam videos and put them on dvd, as well as watching films or general net surfing.
Do you guys think it is worth it? Or should I leave it.

edited to add, i believe this version is not upgradable (ram or ssd) but am happy to be corrected by those in the know.

Don't think you can argue with that for 600 quid, imo.

Not a bad result this. Got another refurbished one back today in exchange for the faulty one. There is no doubt that the keyboard is better one this one and it seems in better condition generally. So it could prove to be a bit of a bargain buy after all...
