Particularly in bed with my face smushed up against the pillow it seems to have bit of a problem with.
You're holding it wrong, seriously. When the phone is too close to your face the IR dot projector cannot get enough coverage of your mug and so will not work. I've read 12 inches is about right. To be fair, when it does unlock it's really bright and takes some adjusting in the dark.

You see the fact that app X has a notification, but it doesn't show the content until you have unlocked the phone with your face.
Exactly. Before, the whole message showed, which was a bit annoying if it was a text message from the bank!I assume that this is a general iOS 11 update, so it works the same way on the TouchID phones now as well?

The part I haven't got used to yet is that FaceID only does the unlock where as Touch ID actually opened up the phone. There have been a few times where I have sat there waiting for the phone to open, but forgetting I need to swipe up!
If you swipe up, before the phone even sees you, then FaceID will open the phone for you. I now don't bother unlocking the padlock, just swipe up and the phone's opened immediately.Got mine today - backed up my 6, shoved the SIM into the new X and tried to restore from iTunes backup but it told me it (the backup) was corrupt, then told me the X needed an update. Which failed. Now I can't update it or restore it. So I have a £1000 paperweight. fking brilliant. And I have to wait until Thursday before I can get a Genius appointment. fking pile of dogst.

You can hide the message content on any iPhone. I assume that this is a general iOS 11 update, so it works the same way on the TouchID phones now as well?
That is just a setting in notifications under messages. If you switch preview off you don’t see thit content on the lock screen.

I won't have a phone without OLED ever since my Galaxy S2. I've had several OLED screen phones, never seen any burn in...
I had a small amount of burn in on my S7 Edge due to listening to Amazon Music on my commute in the car with the screen always on. Very faint music controls visible.pincher said:

Have heard of this happening more than once, sadly.Have you tried booting the X in DFU mode?
- Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
- Quick-press the Volume Up button
- Quick-press the Volume Down button
- Hold down the Side button until the screen goes black, then hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button.
- After 5 seconds, release the Side button while continuing to hold down the Volume Down button.
- Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode. If open, iTunes will alert you that a device was detected in recovery mode.
You could also take another backup of your 6.
DFU mode should recover any iPhone regardless of its state, unless there was something physically wrong with it which won't be the case for your phone.
It's been a long time since I've had to do it, but I've recovered "bricked" iPhones more than once by DFU restoring them. Nowadays it's pretty simple (besides the rather funky button combination to get into it, by design) and once iTunes sees it it'll take care of everything.
EDIT: It might be worth you upgrading your 6 to the latest iOS and then taking a backup, otherwise you're probably going to end up DFU restoring your X to the latest iOS only to have it downgraded by the backup, and then having to re-upgrade it again.
EDIT 2: Here are better instructions for DFU mode:
How to put your iPhone X or iPhone 8 into DFU mode

How to put your iPhone X or iPhone 8 into DFU mode
- Plug your iPhone X or iPhone 8 into your Mac or PC.
- Make sure iTunes is running.
- Turn Off your iPhone X or iPhone 8 (if it isn't already).
- Press and hold down the On/Off button on the right side of your iPhone for 3 seconds.
- Press and hold down the Volume down button on the left side of your iPhone while still holding down the On/Off button.
- Keep holding both buttons down for 10 seconds. (If you see the Apple logo, you've held them too long and will need to start again.)
- Let go of the On/Off Button but keep holding the Volume down button for about 5 seconds. (If you see the "Plug into iTunes" screen, then you've held it too long and will need to start again.)
- If the screen stays black, that's it! Your iPhone should now be in DFU mode.

I had it too - make sure you have the very latest versions of iTunes and IOS, back up the old phone to your PC, ensure the latest IOS is on the X, then restore the data back to the X
It took my about 3 hours to Bluetooth my photos from my 6+ to the X as I couldn't get the restore to work first time. The following night I made sure I had all the above and it worked fine

I had a look in the Apple store at the weekend. Firstly, it looks really nice although still not a massive departure from other iPhones. Definitely the most "premuim" phone in look and feel that I've looked at. I did like the OLED screen. I also like the size of the device with the larger screen. Not sure about the lack of home button yet, I'd get used to it but I'm OCD about double tapping and closing applications so obviously there's a new way to do this on the X I'd have to discover.
Overall, I just didn't really get the sense it was too much of a step up to my 6S to justify such a large spend. I'm also still not ready to give up the headphone jack so I'll run with my SIM only contract until my phone grinds to a halt then look at the options later.

Re closing apps, its a smoother process - Overall, I just didn't really get the sense it was too much of a step up to my 6S to justify such a large spend. Gently swipe up from the bottom of the phone and the apps you have open appear to the left of the screen, lightly press the top left hand corner of the first app and a '-' will appear, and just tap on the '-' for each one you wish to close
All the new processes are 2nd nature to me now, it really is an easy phone to use for the day to day stuff

I definitely find it slower too. Worth noting that when closing multiple apps, you don't have to click the '-' sign for each one, you can just swipe up on each one you want to close. Still not as quick for closing the first one though.
This is the same on the non X iPhones. Double click Home button, start swiping up.kingston12 said:
