I have been using a 123-reg.co.uk domain email address for years and never really noticed the cost of renweal (sure this year it has jumped). The domain is a .co.uk and the yearly renewal is £43.06 for the year (this is not the domain renewal).

I do not use the 123-reg.co.uk in box but you my gmail account but have it set to send from my domain and receive from my domain using 123-reg.co.uk pop and smpt (sorry not to clued up on this).

Could I still use my set up without the 123-reg renewal of the email box (I wil still own the domain)?

I use 1-2-3 for email and renewed one account in September and it was... £43.06 (cus I've just checked the invoice).

You could just set your domain to forward to your gmail account. So if someone sends an email to xyz@yourdomain.co.uk it will be sent on to xyz@gmail.com.

When you send an email, it will of course be sent from your gmail acount. You can set outlook to do that, but show your email as xyz@yourdomain.co.uk. The downside is that when someone replies, they will see your email as what it actually is (xyz@gmail.com) and not your domain email address.

So, if you want people to see your proper email address then you need to pay for a 1-2-3 box, otherwise they will see your gmail address (but can still sent you an email to your domain name email address).

But, when you buy a 1-2-3 box, you actually get 100 boxes (well, I have, but I've no idea why really). So I have multiple domain names, all with 1-2-3 mailboxes, but I've only paid for 1.

Does that lot make sense ?

This might help:

That does, sort of make sense thank you.

At the minute when someone emails me at me@domain.co.uk I read it on gmail. I can also send from Gmail and the recipient will see it being from me@domain.co.uk though. I have input 123-reg smtp settings into gmail to do this.

Ah, I see now. You are just using the gmail website to read your 1-2-3 mail using your me@domain.co.uk address.

So if you don't pay 1-2-3 for a mailbox, that will no longer work.

Then if you don't want to pay 1-2-3 for a mailbox, you will have to create a gmail address and get 1-2-3 to forward your email to that gmail address.

I found a pending payment on my bank account for £86.11 and was wondering what it was. Appears to be the renewal for 2 email accounts, one of which is never used!

Did think it sounds expensive but wasn't sure. Wonder if I can cancel it.

Looking at this more 123-Reg don't issue reminders and send the invoice after they have charged the card. Not exactly sure what the cancellation process is. https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Account-... Mkight be entitled to a 14 day cooling off period but not sure

I have domains registered with 123-reg, 1&1 and TSO Host as well as a single basic TSO hosting site.

One of the domains (domain2.co.uk) is registered with one of the non-TSO host companies and I have just changed the MX record to that of the TSO host website (domain1.co.uk) and within this TSO hosting control panel added a "domain alias" as domain2.co.uk.

This is really so that domain1.co.uk, domain2.co.uk, and if desired domain3/4/5/6.co.uk or whatever can all share the email accounts that are available with the domain1.co.uk hosting package. They all work independently and can send/receive with their correct domain and be set up in Outlook/Thunderbird as independent and separate mail boxes.

This avoids paying for the 123-reg email hosting, but does require the website hosting package.

The other method is to simply set a domain-forward in the 123-reg control panel, which I think has been covered by other posters. This just maps something like "booking@theoldbarn.co.uk" to "theoldbarnguesthouse@gmail.com" but replies will then send as the Gmail address (unless you set the redirect email address as the "reply-to" address) though this method may appear a bit unprofessional if used in professional or business sense.

N.B. I think 1&1 offer a single IMAP mailbox for free with the registration of a single domain.

I just use and give out my Gmail addresses, despite having lots of URLS / business sites; it seems to be becoming more and more ‘the norm’ and avoids all of this palarver and cost.

My domain names are with 123 Reg, but I host my own emails (because I'm paranoid). I have, in the past, used Microsoft Office 365 with the same domain names, and it's easy to do without paying 123 Reg anything other than the fee to renew.

You can follow the instructions Gmail provide if you wish to use them still, and you will need to add specific records to your domain name in the control panel. Things like A records, TXT-SPF records etc. You'll also need to add two MX records, all of this Gmail will provide you.

Give it a little time, and all your emails will be diverted to Gmail without any fuss or muss.
