What happened to the proposed finger print scanner on the screen?

No you didn't
I replied the same and deleted it before posting ... they’re just not worth it

O2 aren't even giving anything away with it as an incentive!

They are however offering 50percent off a £70 wireless charger which I'm sure was £39.99 in the past.

I'm tempted to upgrade my S7 Edge that has just gone out of contract with O2. The cheapest way I can seem to find to do this with a decent amount of data would be to trade in my S7 Edge with Samsung and get £202.50 off the SIM free retail price of £869. That would leave a balance of £666.50. You them pay a 10% deposit, £66.65, leaving £599.85 to spread over two years at 0% APR = £24.99 per month. Then get a SIM only 12 month contract with Virgin with unlimited texts and mins plus 40Gb of 4G data costing £18 per month. All in monthly cost £43 which is way cheaper than any of the deals I can find through the various networks and resellers, unless anyone can tell me differently smile

If you don't need to finance then Carphone warehouse are offering an extra £100 on the trade in price against an S9 So currently £275 on an S7 Edge

Agreed that's a good (maybe the best) deal if you don't need the finance, as you say, but I spread the cost of phones across the contract term and trade in come the end for an upgrade- the problem is most providers inflate the cost of the handset in the first place so they can advertise an interest free loan for the contract term, having already built the interest into the premium for the handset. Virgin are one of the cheapest for the S9 deals at the moment but if you dig into the handset cost you'll find they want £1080 for the handset (£45 per month on 24 month deal) before you include your airtime costs on the 30 day rolling contract. So if I trade in with Virgin and get £270 (which is less than CW but only by a fiver) you are still paying £810 for the handset after your trade in - rip off frown

I'd take a look at the Samsung website as well. I got my Note 8 on 2 year interest free deal and can upgrade after 12 months to their latest flagship. I got that and bunged in a cheap PAYG SIM and now pay £43 PM rather than £65 PM when I had a 2 year deal with Three and an S7 Edge. Admittedly I didn't get as much data but I worked out that I didn't need it.

Available for pre-order in the US now. I was a little annoyed when I thought my provider had marked it up, then realized I was looking at the S9+ by mistake.

Oops.

So, $720.

However, the provider has a $250 discount, so it's actually only $470. Can't really say no at that point.

So, i'm a serial Apple owner. Have had iPhones since the 3GS.

My current 6S 64GB is aging like milk, and i suspect it will die this year.

I would only be interested in the iPhone X however after reading about the S9 last night, it is better in every single way than the X and is significantly cheaper.

How can Apple justify their prices?

Seems i shall be moving do the Android side of things this next upgrade.
same position here, 6s 64gb which is shockingly bad at the moment. The damn thing is only 10 months old due to a warranty replacement, and it was slowed down at 6 months old (against the claims of apple then and now!) this week it has just started to freeze randomly and judder in and out of apps.
If this is what will happen with an iPhone X in a years time then no chance!

Wife went from a 5s to an s8+ and it's amazing, photos were so far ahead of my 6s. S9+ is a big phone, but looks good to me and really liking that super slo-mo and dual camera.

But a 6s was released in sept-2015 is now 31mths old ... an X in one years time will still only be 17mths old - hardly a comparable example is it.

you missed where I said I got a warranty replacement 10 months ago. It's a 10 months old phone.

And I couldn't. Pre-ordered in Coral Blue. Should be a nice upgrade from my S5.

No I saw that and yes it’s only 10mths old as a physical device but it’s tech that’s nearly 3yrs old, it could be brand new today but can’t be expected to run the same as a current gen iPhone - that’s the point I was getting at

It should run at a solid >90% though. The difference in OS load is almost totally negligible.

Whilst that is a sound point( though 2.5 years old tech not 3), this is not what happened. Apple downclocked it for fun. I know there was a reason behind it, preventing battery damage to older batteries, this isn't what happened. My phone proves it was applied to all 6s's, not just ones with old batteries. Overnight I went from a great phone, to a terrible one, then a few months later they fixed it, and now it is getting worse again. Not just a little, but loads. I haven't updated the software either since it started working well again(even though they make it incredibly difficult/annoying not to), so this issue is not caused by subsequent updates slowing it down.

I don't expect it to run as fast as a latest gen phone, but I also don't expect it to glitch, slow down significantly, judder between apps etc on a 10 months old device that was sodding expensive and top of the range only 18 months ago

There is another thread for this however, so I won't say any more on this subject other than Apple have lost me as a customer.

Thank you for this, took your advice.
I have a really good sim only deal with EE atm, £15 unlimited with 8gb, didnt want to loose that, this has saved me £9 a month & extra 4gb more than what EE was offering on the upgrade.

I didn't bother with s8. so I was kinda worried that the s10 will be the proper upgrade, so this suits me well as I can change up after 12 months.

Glad to help. I think these days that a 2 model upgrade path is the way to go but it's good to have the option.

Hmn, not sure I entirely agree with your reasoning there. It has a slightly better camera, not as good facial recognition system, on-par screen (when Apple's extra display features are taken into account) slower CPU supposedly and so on. I think now there just aren't easy comparisons between flagship phones where one is 'clearly better', the differences are tiny and boil down to preference. I bought a 256GB iPhone X this year and absolutely love it, but could have as easily gone for the S9 if it was out (sorted the speakers at last, Samsung, took your time!) and seriously considered the Pixel 2XL whose camera looks bloody amazing. But as I have bought into the Apple ecosystem I stuck with Apple. I have to say the iPhone X is my favourite ever phone (the HTC One M7 finally toppled from the number one spot for me).

What I definitely would say though is that Apple need to sort their software out, both OSX and iOS - "it just works" is now, for me, "it's just st". Apparently they are now going to do this, thank God. And Siri, for the love of God sort it out! (Mind you Bixby is even worse)

I'm finding the 2+ model offering we now get all from all the manufacturers to be irritating. The standard versions (non XL/+) are the sweet spot for me in terms of size but I if I go for a standard version I potentially will have less ram; a lower quality screen; and an inferior camera. It's putting me off going from standard S7 to standard S9 when my upgrade is due.

I am happy with my Huawei P10 Plus and nothing about the S9 makes me want to jump ship. It's quick, reliable and has good battery life up to now. I wish they would get Oreo released but other than that no real issues. Ok the screen is not as sensitive as I would like and it does have a few annoying things but so do most phones. At the price I paid (£449) sim free I am happy.
