Basic Kindle every time for reading - the ones with the "paper white" screen.

Not to be confused with a Kindle Fire though which is basically an Amazon centric android tablet with an LCD

Kindle Paperwhite for books. Read anywhere and the battery lasts for weeks.

You're just trying to get out of buying a birthday present. wink

FWIW - when I bought mine (many years ago) I was pretty sure I wouldn't get on with it - I liked reading books. I changed my mind pretty much as soon as I started using it. Not really any negative sides, and it's so easy to carry multiple books on holiday - plus you can get more whenever you want pretty much wherever you are. The sample feature is also dead useful - there are some styles of writing I just don't like and being able to try the first part of the book is very handy.

(My mum was absolutely non-techy and also found the same thing when she bought one)
