Hi all.

An elderly relative has just had a pop up to phone microsoft to remove a virus. He did, and a lovely lady talked him through installing support one supremo remote access.

Slightly fortunate in that he could not get online banking to work to pay for her services.

Now I come in... I have talked him through bitdefender searches (nothing found) tried to find an uninstall for support one (since found out I just need to get him to delete the supremo.exe file) and next plan to talk him through changing all passwords.

Apart from removing his access to a laptop, what do I need to do?

Sorry, I am a novice in these things, but I hope I would not phone a pop up number for help...

Thank you in advance!

If it were my machine, I would wipe and reinstall. You have no way of knowing what else might have been installed; it's entirely likely that they've put a keylogger on there there's phoning home and god knows what else.

Thank you!

I can access his banking from my machine, will change the passwords myself, and then I can try get re-install.

Good plan, thank you!

Thank you everyone, agree, a fresh install will be the best option.

Battery has been removed from laptop until such time as I can get my hands physically on it.

If I can find anything specific on it like a key logger I will post back, but the chances are I will just nuke it and start afresh.

Once again, thank you!
