New MacBook Pros

The XPS15 with the i7 processor has pretty much *exactly* this issue, allegedly caused by poor cooling by the VRMs. It seems to be only a major issue when gaming.
I haven't read much about it, certainly it hasn't been plastered all over the news like this most recent Apple farce. I find it interesting that people are only too happy to attack them, wringing their hands with glee while cutting 'lesser' manufacturers much more slack.
edit to add: article from mac rumors which seems to indicate that the problem is largely resolved but the basic design deficiency remains.

I'd be concerned about the longevity of the machine if I was going to own one.

It's a shame they don't make the 17" Macbook Pro again.
I've had mine since 2011.
It's had a new battery and free logic board repair in that time.
I'm hoping I can 'Trigger's broom' it if stuff starts to fail as I like the bigger screen.
Well it looks like this comment has jinxed it.I've had mine since 2011.

Logic board gone again and now Apple and their recommended authorised agents can't/won't fix it.
Shame, as it's immaculate nick.
I've gone for a refurbished 2017 15 inch from Apple for £1850.
Good price?

Presumably that means that the non-touchbar models aren't getting the new keyboard mechanism?
Not sure but I'd naively assumed all the MBP 13" models were new - that's not the case.Sorely tempted by a Chromebook if I can get to the bottom of being 100% sure I can run Sky Go on it through the Google Play Store.
£299 looks a bloody bargain given I spend 99% of my time in Chrome.
I was going to hold out but very annoyingly just dropped my late 2013 Haswell 15” rMBP (top spec i7 / 16GB / 1TB) on a stone floor. It had been flawless until now, still works even, but the unibody is all bent and distorted and some damage sustained to the lid.
My contents insurer has agreed to cover it on a new for old basis.
Not sure what to go for given that a “like for like” quad core i7 / 16GB / 1TB spec can be achieved in 13” format now, or whether I should try and get them to pay cash so I can stick it towards a full fat i9 / 32GB order.
Still genuinely annoyed about the 2013 device as it was absolutely pristine, usable on a daily basis and I planned to let the kids use it.

These are so incredibly expensive now after the price increase a year or so a go.
I bought my late 13" 2014 macbook pro for about £980. To get an upgrade with the quad core processor (not worth it otherwise) will cost me £1750. Absolutely insane pricing.
The GBP/USD rate was 1.6-1.7 in 2014, more like 1.3 now I bought my late 13" 2014 macbook pro for about £980. To get an upgrade with the quad core processor (not worth it otherwise) will cost me £1750. Absolutely insane pricing.
I'm considering a second hand 2016/17 Pro as an upgrade to my 2014 Air (mainly for the screen!) but have considered a much cheaper option - a £450 second hand 2015 12" non-pro. I started a thread here:
