I have a rather nifty laptop with a 4K screen but I'm finding 4K streaming to be unusable.

My internet is definitely not quick enough to stream it unbuffered, it's about 10-11 mbps or so, but the sluggishness with the buffering is definitely abnormal. I could easily leave it for an hour and I might have gained less than a minute of viewable video.

I've tried multiple browsers, both Vimeo and Youtube, and it's the same in all of them. Am I missing something obvious? Ten hours of waiting to view ten minutes of 4k youtube seems a tad excessive.

Are your browsers set up to limit the amount of local storage to either of those sites?

I sometimes get a pop-up asking me that a certain site wants to store more than the default amount (e.g. over 100mb or so).

New one on me. I'll check that out. It makes sense.

Worth checking if the graphics card is up to playing 4k, can you download a segment and make sure it plays correctly from local storage.

As you have already noted, your broadband is too slow to stream 4k.

Does it work ok with a hd stream, from netflix etc? If it works fine with that then it's likely an inherent incompatibility with the 4k streaming technology and your broadband speed, rather than a hardware or software issue.

Do you have another device you can test the uhd stream on your broadband??

You could try and download a 4k file and watch from local storage but that usually involves getting into illegal nzb techy stuff.

HD streaming is perfect. The computer can play 4K just fine. It must be some sort of browser issue. The broadband can't keep up with 4k streaming no matter what.
