I've got an Samsung S5 and want a new phone had been set on an S8 but missed the Amazon Prime deal of £439, was prepared to pay £499 for it (which it had seemed to be for months) but noticed today for some reason S8's everywhere seem to have gone up a £100 to £589 - £599, Argos / John Lewis etc ggrrr ... I thought they would get cheaper !

Anyway I cant afford £589 so wondered what others would recommend Android wise, I'm not bothered about brand just want something that performs well, I tend to use my S5 for watching youtube, photo's etc, not music.

cheers

I'm having this delivered today, my third THL in a row. Cheap and effective. First one (THL5000) even survived a swimming pool incident. My second one (THL T7) the camera isn't brilliant, and the navigation on Chinese phones always seems to be a few seconds slow, but at the price you can't really fault it.

My wife has a Moto G5S. It seems pretty good, I assume the newer G6S is better and within budget. If you can cope with a bit of budget creep I’d go for a Oneplus 6 for 469 pounds - https://www.oneplus.com/uk/

Have a look on smartfonestore
https://www.smartfonestore.com/filter-mfr-samsung....

I used them for a brand new S8 Plus and had no problems and it was a brand new, sealed, UK phone.
They have some S9's brand new for under £500 or unlocked (not in stock though) for £510.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro is very very good and on Amazon at 400 quid, exact same phone as the P20 Pro but makes due with 2 cameras rather than 3, still takes very good pictures.

Yep - I'd be looking at that and the OnePlus 6

Still waiting for mine from banggood,,, sleep
Stonking value. A lot od the cheap chinese phones will never get any updates, but xiaomi seem to be getting the hang of actually supporting their phones with new versions!
Or just unlock the bootloader and install lineage or revolution remix or one of the many other aosp versions.

Motorola G series are superb value for money. Budget price, but not budget spec.

Bought a OnePlus 5 back in October and it is superb. The 6 is even better and certainly where I would put my money. The camera is epic, the display decent and the rapid charging is very handy.

The OnePlus 6 seems to be the market winner in all the reviews for the best mid price high spec phones.

I'm using mine right now. it really is the most amazing value for money. The fact they've got the camera sorted with this new generation of handsets makes it a complete phone.

I replace my aging Nexus 6p with a OnePlus 6. It is indeed a very good phone, and night and day in performance compared to my previous phone. Battery now sitting at 42% after coming off charge 26 hrs ago. Camera very fast, screen is very clear even in sunlight.. It supports WiFi calling on EE / BT and O2. It's is dual SIM also which is a bonus for me..

I got a OnePlus 5T off Gumtree for £350 earlier this year. There's an argument that the 6 doesn't really bring much over the 5T. This was my first upgrade since buying a OPO when they first came out and were 'cheap' new.

Can't fault the 5T at the moment.

How are you finding it? I have a THL5000 which is nearing end-of-life; I was thinking of a T7 but I think perhaps I should run a later OS than 5

Other than that Asus looks interesting.

How about an Honor 9 and lots of change?

http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7908538

I got mine for just £159.95 from John Lewis, which was an amazing deal at the time, but even at £250.00 it's one hell of a phone.

Why anyone would want anything better than this is beyond me, unless they had their heart set on an OLED display. Then of course you are paying big money.

Had my Oneplus 5 just over a year and been impressed with it, still very snappy performance, camera average though despite them launching it in a blaze of "dual camera better photos" hype. I can see me keeping this for quite a few years, quite possibly until they stop supporting it and to be fair to Oneplus they seem to support older phones quite extensively.

Processor? Battery? Ram? Screen? OS version? The Honor 9 is a good phone but it's nowhere near as good as what you can get for £450.
