My iPhone SE is perfect for my needs, but I’ve noticed in the last month that many websites have been updated to work with an assumption of higher screen resolution.

Page content, Submit buttons and form fields are unscrollably off the edge of the page etc.

normally it’s an OS update causing fatal slowness that causes me to upgrade but this time it might be screen res!

time for an SE2?
Yep, finding a few examples now of GDPR-compliant "I agree" stuff that you can't get past on a SE. Annoying.

I'm guessing the current iPhone 8 will become the cheaper option once the new ones are announced (at the prices the iPhone 7 currently goes for), and I'm quite likely to end up with one if there isn't a new SE model.

I'm looking forward to a refresh and will likely order.....

1 x new iPhone X Plus (10 or whatever it's called)
1 x new iPhone X (10 or whatever it's called)
1 x 42mm new watch
1 x 38mm new watch

Currently running 7's but I change every two years which suits me fine.

Yes, yes, yes, it's a waste of money and I'm obviously being a complete Apple Fan-Boy tt etc. etc. but it's my money I'm only living once so sod it.
Plus a new phone with lower spec to the XS but with a screen size larger than the XS but smaller than the XS Plus (although the rumor is that they will drop the "Plus" naming and both the small and large XS will be called XS - that should be confusing)

im interested to see what the prices are for the new phones. will they hold them at the £1k (or more depending on storage), or will they drop them down a bit?!?!?
The rumour mill suggests the iPhone X direct replacement may come in $100 less by comparison, with the iPhone X Plus equivalent potentially being priced at the former iPhone X pricing.

I'm looking to jump in on the X replacement. Been a Plus size user for a few years now, mainly for the better cameras, but the size has grown increasingly cumbersome for me in the last year or so. Ready for the smaller form-factor, and Face ID seems quite stable and will also likely get some speed improvements.

my dream phone would be between iphone 5 and 6 size that has a cover built in and a huge battery life - ie rugged, lasts ages and is not a stupid tablet in your pocket.

with an headphone socket.

Mine would be the same but in between the iphone 4 and 5 size and also waterproof. I can only just use my SE comfortably with one hand and would prefer it to be a little bit smaller really. I seem to be in the minority though - an iphone mini would be great.

My 7 which has been great is out of contract this year so might bag a new one and give mine to the missus as she's on a 6.

Still looking forward to the new Mac Pro, the one I bought in 2014 one is fine but the Apple Care has expired and if it dies it'll be a fortune to get it fixed. Didn't want the iMac Pro as I don't want the built in screen.

But I suspect the event on the 12th will be more about the new operating systems as they'll be out then.

Factory jailbroken.

Sensible prices.

Standard USB mounting without any iTunes.

Would alas be the only options to tempt me back.

Unless you're; very rich, very stupid, or lazy, there's little point in an Apple Phone any longer, which is a shame as it's lovely and generally well built. Unless you've massively invested in apple real estate of course!

The fact they're selling less, whilst at the same time making more money, tells you all you need to know about their customers, who IMO will buy a new one regardless of whether or not the features are required.

However I'll be interested, as I'm certain at some stage we'll see either haptic touchscreens https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/05/finally-a-hapt... or massively improved voice control - tea, earl grey, hot!

My 7+ is still really fast so no reason to upgrade. I would like a smaller phone so if I do it won’t be another + model

May already know this, but if you tap the home button twice (not click, tap), it brings the top of the screen halfway down the phone so you can reach any buttons or options at the top of the screen.

I manage to use my 7 plus with one hand no problems at all with this feature. Its only occasionally I need to tap something at the top of my screen, and when I do I just double tap the home button to bring it into reach smile

It’s an unending mystery why people that don’t like Apple products feel the endless need to deride them.
(Tapped out on my perfect serviceable 4 year old 6+, they will likely not be getting upgraded until it breaks, which it shows no sign of doing, having been invigorated by a cheap new battery).

Just a quick point re your Macbook Pro............

Mine is 5 or so years old and failed, broke or whatever about 6 months ago well out of warranty. I took it along to the Apple Store and for about £180 they fixed it.

From what I understand the battery and keyboard had died so they replaced the entire bottom part of the Macbook using the existing screen, so as new really.

Probably doesn't help your man-maths but worth noting!

Learn something new every day! Thanks for that. Always thought it was a glitch in the software when that happened and never understood what triggered that action

I've got an iPhone 6+ which is now almost 4 years old and is looking (and feeling) slightly worse for wear. The battery isn't great, it feels slow.

I think i'll go for the larger XS in the next 3-4 weeks, as long as the price isn't stupidly expensive, and hand my 6+ over to my daughter.

Fingers crossed it'll drive the prices down on the 7 and 8, need something to replace my 5s (although to be fair I'm not in a big rush, 4 years old and still runs ok)
I’m thinking the same, got a 6S and starting to contemplate an upgrade without paying the mental prices of the latest stuff.
I had a 6 back in September which the camera was broken so I bought a 7 plus which I sold a couple of weeks ago. The battery was great and the camera was unbelievable. It really was brilliant BUT the actual phone was gigantic. The sheer size made me sell it so I now have a 6s. It needs a new battery but for an extra £25 I am happy with it right now.

Wouldn't mind a X purely for the camera but the difference in price from the 6s to the X is around £600 or so which i'd rather keep in the bank.
Might make the jump sometime next year when a better camera is required. For now the 6s is an allround decent phone.

Not quite so easy to do on an X, I have varying degrees of success trying to do it without a button.

Haha I was the same before I first found out. It's a game changer once you get into the habit of using it though.

I can imagine, what gesture is required for it when you don't have a button?

I'm not rich (or stupid for that matter) which is why one of the reasons I buy an iPhone is because when it comes to sell the residual value makes it cheaper than any other non-Apple phone I would want to own.

These threads always seem to descend into anti-Apple nonsense; can we just accept that some people like Apple products and so don't....
