Rumour sites are suggesting an iPad launch as early as next week.
There is likely to be an event as they have quite a few product to launch (Mac/iPad); from what I've read it's likely to be in a couple of weeks (the invites normally go out the week before).
And if it goes well they will finally fully launch the T2 chip will make all unauthorised repairs impossible.

All of this replace rather than repair makes a mockery out of all the ‘green’ bks they spout with each launch.

No as they get round that by offering a recycling programme https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/trade-in

I don't use an iPad, but am heavily invested in Apple products - phone, laptop, desktop. Really great kit but an awful and heavily curated experience for music and photos.... both of which I store elsewhere.

But I still love the hardware.

However, I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with Apple's control of the repair/replace market.

Flickr and Spotify.... I have Google Play too - I uploaded my entire library.

As soon as my photos autoload up to Flickr, I delete them on my phone.

Indeed they aren't at all green.
Typical tech company acts unethically shocker.

I’m not a fan of Photos but put up with it. I use Dropbox which auto copies all images/video to the Dropbox cloud. I will soon move photos to a plug in external drive as it’s 300gb and as I back up in Dropbox that means 2x 300gb in storage on the iMac. Very inefficient.

I also upload a copy to google photos for good measure.

There's nothing typical about their behaviour. Unless you can point me in a direction of a company that did before what they are trying to do now.

Not only is it not in anyway a replacement for them blocking fixing solution (their quotes are ridiculously low), there's nothing green in scrapping/recycling and replacing with new item if the old item can be fixed by someone in less than a day.

A day into using an Apple Watch Series 4 GPS + Cellular, it is proving, rather unsurprisingly, a huge leap forward from the Series 1.

Battery is at 62%, when the old watch was getting into the red zone. Much clearer screen. Very zippy with no lag, calls very clear. Fabric loop is super comfortable.

Faces need a little work - more variety especially with the complications.

The ability to leave the phone behind is a real plus too. Matched with AirPods or similar, "wearables" might really start to take off.

I would say these are even better:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H2XJKSQ/ref...

They curve around the edges and have a black border and are virtually unnoticeable, especially with a case fitted.

I have one fitted with a silicone case and you can't see it all all.
I've just fitted this Klearlook one to my XS Max (after my previous, more expensive screen protector came out of my trouser pocket all shattered somehow!). Pretty impressed so far, because of the black edges you can't see it *at all* on the phone, it just looks like part of it. Whereas the previous one I had, which did not have a black edge, stood out a mile.

Only thing with the Klearlook one is that the so called template/frame/tool it comes with to aid fitting, is a complete waste of time; it clips to the phone OK but then the aperture is too small to get the protector through (too small by lots) so you can't use it.

Are you seriously trying to argue that tech companies act ethically? They are famous for being unethical as it's part of their culture, much like we can say kaizen is part of alot of Japanese companies culture.

bad company

Of course comrade, there are no saints. But I can't recall this much blatant reality distortion at a scale indicating that they know that they don't have to care because they are too big for anyone to touch them. I guess you could call it hutzpah XXXLstyleeee. I'm talking about tech companies offering consumer products.

I’d say apple are doing pretty well on the green front compared to many businesses.

“All our facilities worldwide — including offices, retail stores and data centres — are now powered entirely by clean energy.”

“By 2020, we’ll procure 4 gigawatts of clean energy in our supply chain. That’s approximately one-third of our current manufacturing footprint.”

“Up to 200 iPhone devices disassembled per hour”

“In 2017, 22 supplier facilities were certified as Zero Waste,* including all our iPhone final assembly sites.”

Picked up an XS last week to replace my aging in 7+. So far so good, even if it's taking a bit of time to get used to (in a god way!) the smaller form-factor again.

Given the XS is rated a max of 7.5W draw for wireless charging, does anybody have any recommendations for a desk-stand charger? There's a couple on Amazon, but as always the reviews seem a bit suspect, and I don't want to get one that damages the phone, as there seems to a be a lot fo concern around heat etc
