Picked up an XS last week to replace my aging in 7+. So far so good, even if it's taking a bit of time to get used to (in a god way!) the smaller form-factor again.
Given the XS is rated a max of 7.5W draw for wireless charging, does anybody have any recommendations for a desk-stand charger? There's a couple on Amazon, but as always the reviews seem a bit suspect, and I don't want to get one that damages the phone, as there seems to a be a lot fo concern around heat etc
I’m a big fan of Anker I have their normal lay down style charger, however I saw the stand style charger win a top phone accessory to have type thing in stuff magazine or T3 magazine. Wireless charger, Fast Wireless Charger, Anker 7.5W / 10W / 5W Fast Wireless Charging Stand for iPhone XS / XS Max / XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+/S8/S8+/S7/Note 8 and more, PowerWave 7.5 Stand (AC Adapter not Included) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DBXNV58/ref=cm_sw_r...

Just make sure you plug a fast enough charger block into it as there'll be some waste from the wireless charge process in the form of heat and sub-optimal placement/contact between the phone and the stand. Something 10W or more should do the job. You may also need a longer micro USB cable to go from the charger block to the stand, as the bundled cable is very short and a bit flimsy.

Rumour sites are suggesting an iPad launch as early as next week.
That didn’t happen but still rumours abound.I’d like to change my IPad Pro as I should have bought the Cellular version to use Navmii for navigation.

In general I think all these rumours put out are a shame as it leaves nothing to surprise me.

Ordered one to give it a try
I would say these are even better:https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H2XJKSQ/ref...
They curve around the edges and have a black border and are virtually unnoticeable, especially with a case fitted.
I have one fitted with a silicone case and you can't see it all all.
Only thing with the Klearlook one is that the so called template/frame/tool it comes with to aid fitting, is a complete waste of time; it clips to the phone OK but then the aperture is too small to get the protector through (too small by lots) so you can't use it.
From a Samsung fanboy, the iPhone XS Max is a lovely looking phone - Camera is nice and she's moved from her iPhone 7 with no issues whatever.
But, the screen when compared to the Samsung S9+ next to each other on Youtube 4K Transformers Trailer, isn't as good, and sound not as good either.. Sorry!

Can anyone give me quick synopsis as to why I might need an Apple Watch? it looks close to viable with the latest version for me but I keep putting it off!
Everyone’s different. I use mine principally as a fitness tracker, I also have an app that lets me know when West Ham or England score or concede a goal. Oh and it also tells the time.Davislove said:

I put off buying one for a while to be honest. Thought the whole "charging every night" aspect of it would be tiresome. What tipped it for me is that I bought a FitBit just to remind me to get up at work and do 250 steps an hour (working in IT sucks), and it helped. I was charging that up every few days and it wasn't a big deal. In the end I wanted more info about workouts etc than the FitBit was giving me, so scored a new opened box Apple Watch S2.
From there, as is often the case with Apple equipment, you find it does stuff you never knew you needed until you've experienced it. I didn't know this would happen but when I started playing music in the car via my phone the watch would let me control it, which meant I could change tracks etc without doing anything with my phone. This proved to be a pretty awesome UX.
And as for charging - well, I don't wear a watch in bed so it goes on the bedside charger every night. I know I'm missing out on sleep tracking, but it's not a big deal for me. As it is though it seems to charge very quickly anyway, I can imagine that if I put it on the charger while I had a shower it would probably have enough for the day ahead anyway.
It's a great companion device for the phone to be honest. You can even pretend to be Dick Tracy taking phone calls on it if that takes your fancy.
When the Watch first launched I didn't see the point of it. Then I bought one for my wife, as she was getting back into running and always seemed to be leaving her iPhone somewhere in the house, so I could never get hold of her. I saw how useful she was finding her Watch and bought one for myself.
I haven't worn any of my mechanical watches since, the notifications are great, my iPhone only comes out of my pocket when it needs to now, I can glance at a notification on my Watch and in most cases respond if needed. This means that despite the Bluetooth connection being used all the time, my iPhone battery seems to last longer. However the best thing is the fitness tracking, there hhave been many occasions where I have been motivated to to a work out to make sure that the rings are closed.

Exactly this. I got mine just over a month ago and my phone use has gone down, I have the cellular and it’s nice to be able to pop to the shops and leave the phone at home but know that I’m still contactable. The best feature though is I have Stocard (shop loyalty cards on your iPhone/watch) I can pop into Tesco or shell tap my watch and scan my loyalty card (even Tesco self service works) and then double click tap the card machine and walk off.

This made me laugh. I didn’t realise how many people had copied the ‘ugly’ notch. Presumably some don’t even have the technology in the notch which was the reason for apple even doing it.
Let's not forget that Apple "copied" LG V10 and their additional screen real estate idea. This was such an amazing idea but it turned into the notch abomination. The only hope is that it will go away eventually like the curved screens that were all the rage 4-5 years ago did.
