I know there's already an Apple September event thread, but I figured this one might end up being different enough to warrant it's own thread.

The event is on 30th Nov, next Tuesday, at 10:00 eastern time, or 15:00 UK time.

The rumours are indicating that new iPads are a certainty, and new Macs of some kind are a possibility.

The big hope for a lot of people (including me) seems to be that there will be both a reasonably priced (ahem) replacement for the ageing MacBook Air, and a new Mac Mini. The MacBook Air seems to be more likely to me mentioned than the Mac Mini so far, or at least there have been stronger rumours for it.

The iMac might also be getting updated, but if this is the case no one seems to be expecting more than a processor refresh.

I'll be aiming for a Mini, definitely, and maybe the new thin and light laptop if it's decent. I've moved away from Apple a bit recently, I got rid of my iMac and MacBook Pro, the possible replacements were too expensive and I find Windows a lot less irritating than I did. Still, I miss Mac OS, I find it so nice to use.

Anyone looking to get one of the rumoured new models?

No headphone socket on new iPads.... I'm out...

Also what's with them dropping ports and having to use lots of different dongles ? I was watching a Youtube vid last night. Seems mad to me.

Shave a fraction off the kits dimensions but carry loads of stupid cables around...

Also be interesting to see what the do with memory size's.

128Gb iPad is the sweet spot for me. Have 3. They appear to have binned 128Gb in preference for 64 not big enough for me or 256/512 which I'm not prepared to pay for.

Next tablet will be Android for me. Apple have lost the plot.

I am looking to get an iMac, I bought a Macbok Pro last year and think it is great to use (especially as it has a bash terminal...) .

It is not time to get rid of the Windows10 desktop that my wife and kids use and convert them to MacOS where I wont have to provide IT support. My life is simply not long enough to deal with issue due to Windows 10 udpates and completly un-intuitive user accounts.

I have been holding off buyig an iMac in anticpation of tem at least upgrading the processor...

Spec bumps are all well and good but not that interesting really.

I'm not in the market personally but would like to see an early look at the new Mac Pro to see how they're going to bring it up to date.

They have neglected the iPad mini for a few years with talk that it was being discontinued so I'll be seriously tempted if they update it. For me it's the perfect size for carrying around all day.

I will be in the market for a new Macbook / Macbook air depending on what they do.

I dont see the issue with the moaning about the ports. Everything is wireless these days and cloud based so the only thing ive ever plugged into my laptop for a few years now is the phone to charge it. Can still do that when the computer itself isnt charging, no big deal. They have to do these things to force change. I imagine in say 2 years time there will be no ports at all on any of the laptops or phones.

What do you plug into your laptop that requires the ability to plug about 6 things in at once which is what people seem to be moaning about?

Aren't people usually bringing up the adapter issue, rather than the actual amount of ports?

I use HDMI quite a lot, so I'd need an adapter for that. I'd need adapters or new cables for my cameras, card readers and external hard drives. I'd need an adapter to use any of my thumb drives, I have a fair number of high capacity ones that I'd rather not replace yet.

Is that the end of the world? No, of course not. All these things are widely available. However, it's not so common for many people to have these, so if I forget or lose mine then I'm screwed. Even if it only happened once, that could end up being a lot of hassle.

In addition to that, Apple is asking top, top money for it's products. The equivalent MacBook Pro to my XPS was £1,000 more. That's a big premium for a product that is more inconvienent, even if only by a small amount.

Your usage means it doesn't bother you, which is great! But there are many valid reasons why someone might be upset that a product they liked previously is now more compromised and more expensive than it was.

I understand that, we are derailing the discussion here I guess, but with cloud storage you don’t need all those drives, with wireless you can connect a modern camera etc and connecting to a tv can be done wirelessly too. Not saying you should go it but this is the kind of vision Apple and others are trying to push. The easiest way to do it is make it difficult for people to continue as they are because everyone knows lots of people struggle with change. Not saying that you do but if changes are not sometimes forced they won’t happen. Some people would still like to be riding a horse rather than driving a car.

The problem is it's been two years since losing MagSafe and switching to all USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 and the change still hasn't really happened.

One day all devices will use USB-C and there will be one cable that can handle everything but we're no where near that point yet.

Wireless connectivity is great but transfer speeds are pitiful compared to Thunderbolt 3. If you're dealing with big files then the cloud isn't the answer.

Compared to what it used to be capable of, the MBP is heavily compromised. If it doesn't affect you then you would never have struggled with the previous design.

I thought this was a thread about Apple stuff. You already have some reading above. Are you binning it all then?

Its not really a "pro" device anymore. Apple are more and more focusing on the consumer market and not the pro market. You can see that from their desktop range too. In fact I would go as far as saying they are totally neglecting their computer based customers these days.

From what they have been doing, yeah, they are definitely targeting the consumer market first.

But what they are saying is the opposite. The product page for the MBP talks about its performance in pro apps https://www.apple.com/uk/macbook-pro/

They do offer an i9 in the Pro now so they haven't completely lost interest. The i9 isn't really a consumer chip.

I suppose it could all just be marketing to get people to think they are buying the best in the biz.

No. But I stopped at iPad Air 2's and i'll not be buying again. I've had mac kit from the Quadra days. I've fallen out with Apple. Like I said I think they are taking the Pi$$ and it appears I'm not the only one.

Never mind I'm sure Apple will still have plenty of people to buy the kit.

I just recently upgraded my Air to a 2017 MBP and I have found the switch to USB C surprisingly easy.

I have a very small USB-C adaptor attached to zip of the protective sleeve I use, so it's always with me, and for quick jobs I don't evem need to remove it from the sleeve.

At home I have a reasonably small adaptor that has a HDMI port, USB port, and an SD card reader, which I break out occasionally.

I also bought a magnetic USB-C cable that mimics Magsafe which has made the transition easier - Magsafe was really very good.

Do you mean Tue 30 October at 3pm, as in tomorrow?

I'm hoping that a new 12.9" iPad Pro will be unveiled because I've been hanging back from buying one for several months now.

A new MacBook Air would be good, but I'm guessing that Apple in their infinite wisdom will do away with all the useful ports in the 'upgrade' process, and no doubt get rid of the very handy SD slot whilst they are at it.
