Why don't they just have a folding phone with two screens and no bezel to save all the effort?

Because watching a film with a line through the middle would be stupid.

Good point.

What's needed is something nice and big you can sit in front of and watch a film on. If only someone would invent the TV biggrin

Oh, I don't use a phone or tablet for that. I wouldn't mind watching a YT video or browsing a website or writing a Word doc with a line through it.

I feel sorry for anyone who watches films on their phones or tablets/laptops even. I feel even more sorry for you if you do it on a loudspeaker in public.

PS don't be a bellend and wear headphones
PPS Zoobeef this is not aimed at you directly, but at a general population of inconsiderate millennial wkers who's parents were too busy with everything but raising their children.

I see I said film and that's all you can think of when watching videos on a phone.
Never clicked on a video on Facebook? Youtube? Just a website?
Never then turned your phone on its side to make it full screen so you can see it better? So why wouldn't you open a phone to use a folding screen to see it even better or use other features.

No, because I said film the only thing in your mind is a 4 hour epic that should only be watched in a cinema.

Let's just not invent things because some blokes on PH are narrow minded.

Well come on, be serious and man up to your own mess FFS. You said "films" not "videos".

PS And no I never clicked on a video on Facebook, I'm not on Facebook.

Agree, a film is a film, the rest are videos.

Films used to come on videos, you're being pedantic.

If you can't see that people may want a bigger screen at times to watch a "video" or a "film" or a snapchat from your mum and having the option of having a portable bigger screen is something that people want then the technology is lost on you. Stick to the mail.

Watching a film on a screen that is nearly square would be stupid too.

Well, as I say, I wouldn't mind especially if it's a 2 minute video of a cat being an ahole.

Even if they make a folder that's amazing, the same tech will make a normal phone so nice that you just wouldn't look at a folder.

And if you have this amazing folder, it's still not that much better than working on a large phone, it'll still be heavily compromised to the point that you won't really want to do your emails on it etc. You can work perfectly well on a Note for example if you have to, but if that's a common thing for you to do, then you'd have a tablet or laptop with you as well.

I can't see really see the point, other than moving tech forward.

What would be better for most people is if we could change the SIM system so you can use your contract across multiple devices, then just take the device you need for the day when you leave the house. Particularly for people that don't really make calls. Then there'd be a market for bluetooth handsets or add-ons that let you have a mini 'phone' in your pocket, but using the service on the tablet in your bag.

What I'm saying is essentially on those occasions where you would unfold your folder, you just get the tablet out of your bag instead. I would do that now if it didn't mean having to carry the 6" phone with me which gives me 90%, or paying for a second data contract or relying on WiFi. And what's with things like WhatsApp only running on Phones.

The rereleased Samsung Fold is showing up now, just be very very careful with it...

Also a new Xiaomi phone. This one doesn't fold, but it does wrap the screen around the front and back of the body...

How do you hold it without touching the edge and starting/activating something you didn't want to? If there is nothing touch sensitive then it's an expensive and pointless gimmick. Almost everyone holds a phone in their left hand and their fingers will be all over that screen edge.

A review (can't remember who from) came up on my phone today, apparently the screen can be scratched with a finger nail and there's got dust (may have actually been sand) in it on the first day that they had it.

I fear this will be a massive, massive flop.

Is that true ? I'm left handed and hold my phone in my right hand.
I type with my left hand but often use my right for scrolling etc

The curved edge is on both sides isn't it? So doesn't matter which hand you hold it in you might be activating something by touch. Anyway $3000 I heard on one YT clip!
