I am about to try setup my home network this week when i get a chance and i currently have a BT home hub 6 doing all the work. I purchased a Ubiquiti edgerouter X and wifi access point lite last year and never got round to setting them up.

I plan to move the phone line and router to the office so i can wire my desktop computer to the router.

Just wondered if anyone can spot any issues with my plan and what settings i might need to configure to get the edgerouter x working with the BT home hub? I am guessing disable the wifi on the homehub and let the ubiquiti acess point do that .

Any pointers would be a great help.

Home hub doesnt have modem mode so you will have double nat, not a great situation for a lot of applications, you would be better getting a openreach hg612 or draytek 130 to handle modem duties if you want to use the edgerouter.
What model access point do you have?

Ah, thats a bit crap, i assumed i could just knock off the router side of things from home hub and use it as a modem.

I have the ubiquiti AP AC lite access point.

Not quite, closest you can get is dmz on homehub to erx, but still double nat, problems online gaming, hosting cctv/nas and such.
Openreach modem is cheap enough.

Why are you fitting an Edgerouter? If it's just for basic home internet use then keep the HH6, with wifi off, and the Unifi AP.

You can leave the hh6 wifi on and cable the uap upstairs, tbh there isnt much wrong with the hh6 its the best of the isp provided routers.

Thanks for the replies. I am using it as i bought it last year when living at a different address and while im moving the phone line and router to the office i thought i may aswel use it.

I think i have the old openreach modem at work so i might give that a try. i plan to get some of the ubiquiti cctv gear in the future so thought sticking with the router, access point would be a good idea.

Curious why you went Edgerouter rather than UniFi for home use? It sounds like you’re not a Pro user either?
