Thanks.
What’s one of those?
You need to run a piece of software called a controller to set them up. This is free and can be downloaded onto any computer. However more fancy features and statistics are available if you leave the controller software running permanently. The cloud controller key is essentially this software on a tiny bespoke low power computer you can leave on all the time. Very convenient and cool (especially if you intend on adding Ubiquiti’s cctv cameras) but not absolutely necessary. What’s one of those?
OK, Plusnet modem replaced with Apple AirPort Extreme and a Vigor 130 Modem. Five Ubiquity LR units ordered rather than the 5 Lite that was recommended, as I think I’ll benefit from the high gain antenna.
And then, we’ll see.
After that I’m going to try a 5G modem, paired to a big, high gain external antenna, to see if I can pick up the 5G signal that can apparently be found by normal handsets just a couple of streets away.
If that doesn’t work I have ahole Musk’s finest space internet ordered.

Buy it. Or be cheap like me and make one on a pi.If your do buy one, make sure it's the gen two.
It'll make config easier.

I’ve fortunately got POE to all the Cat 6.
Less fortunately I see that there are multiple standards, on different voltages, so God knows if I have the right sort.
That’s the great thing with standards. So many to choose from!Less fortunately I see that there are multiple standards, on different voltages, so God knows if I have the right sort.

Is the problem you're having internal distribution, or external connectivity? If that doesn’t work I have ahole Musk’s finest space internet ordered.

It's expecting passive poe, 24v -802.3at.
Not anymore, they don’t use passive for APs for a few years now.Edited by megaphone on Saturday 20th February 14:07

The AP Lite and the LR are both 24v passive and 48v 802.3at. I expect they will be the last Unifi APs to have 24v, Unifi is standardising on 48V.
Thank God. Anything for consistency. The LR is definitely 24v still. Although it looks like it would take 48v, it came with a 24v poe tap.

Just ordered this for rural France, they are estimating it goes live there mid year... then fun and games with getting the WiFi up and running properly. page3 said:

Not massively keen on the motorised dish on a tripod on a lead either, might be tricky to get that to get a signal if you live in a flat or somewhere without a garden.

Yes I looked into it, it's incredibly expensive.

I suspect that in that kind of environment, with presumably high demand, high speed internet will already be available. Not massively keen on the motorised dish on a tripod on a lead either, might be tricky to get that to get a signal if you live in a flat or somewhere without a garden.
