DHL have failed to deliver mine FFS
Not hugely surprising... When I saw DHL delivery I was prepared for it to take a few days, for once I was pleasantly surprised.Funk said:
I think mine's due from EE on Thursday which is the official launch day? How'd you get yours really Alex?
I think the official launch day is tomorrow? It could be Thursday, I'm not sure. Either way, I just ordered through the Google store and they sent it out on Monday. Not quite the Apple level of release coordination, ahem.I like it so far. Camera seems good, screen is good (and flat! Woo!!), software is good, radar is useful for quietening down alarms it seems, and although I can get gestures to work pretty consistently, I don't think I'll be using them much. Face unlock is mega fast thanks to the phone being ready when you pick it up, I'm impressed.
Will report back on the battery life later. I think it won't be great, honestly.
It is more or less as I expected it to be on first impressions. I highly doubt I'll recommend this to any of my mates, but it's exactly what I want from a phone. Well, almost exactly . Nothing's perfect.

I got one of these as well which was a nice surprise but a bit of a gimmick, the "free photo storage" is only the standard high quality offering that all Pixel buyers get. According to Google two thousand customers in the UK got these special boxes. Face unlock works really well, I was concerned that it was going to be a faff but it's actually seamless in operation.
Battery life so far seems OK but today will be the first proper test.
I still have severe misgivings about the lack of app support for face unlock. It'll mean a long period of unlocking apps like banking by reverting to PIN or pattern. Even then I'm still not 100% on securing stuff like that with face unlock. I think Google have made a mistake removing fingerprint authentication so suddenly.

Can't find it. I have dev options on but can't see that in the list.
its not called "lag fix" you need to change several settings. Change the following
Window animation scale
Transition animation scale
Animator duration scale
Set them all to 0, or decrease them but 0 is best.
90hz refresh only works when the brightness is over 75% https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/23/20928281/googl...

And if you want it 90Hz all the time you've gotta go into the developer options and enable it. MKBHD's view says that without this enables the screen is very choppy as its constantly going from 60Hz to 90Hz and back.N0ddie said:

Pixel 4 XL Astro Test by Alex D, on Flickr
Before I got the phone, I thought that the astro mode would most likely aim to caputre the night sky as you saw it, rather than enhance it in the way a full frame camera can. I was right, if you were in the southern hemisphere around late May with clear skies and no light pollution, I'm sure you'd be able to get a stunning photo of the Milky Way. In the UK though it's going to be difficult.
At some point next year (late spring early summer) I'll be up at the very top of Scotland, curious to see whether it'll be able to capture something cool then.
Mentioned in the android 10 thread.
I ordered a pixel 4 but was on fence as I was gutted about the storage change. I take loads of photos of my kids so the pixel storage has been a big plus.
I have the pixel 3 and my wife the 2.
So it arrived yesterday the oh so orange one and I didn't open. Was gonna send back but then tonight opened to have a look.
The face unlock is neat. Camera seems better. Colours are different and distance seems good. The wavering at the phone seems to work well but struggling at the idea of keeping it given the loss of photo storage and that it's not a major step up and it's £670 back in my pocket.
Battery does worry me too.
What are others impressions and thoughts. Have you gone from 3 to 4?

You will rarely see big changes if you are updating every yearI ordered a pixel 4 but was on fence as I was gutted about the storage change. I take loads of photos of my kids so the pixel storage has been a big plus.

Had to turn off motion sense, screen was waking up a hell of a lot also when on treadmill it kept waking up and unlocking which got annoying.
Lift to wake is how I'm waking the phone to unlock at the moment.
I've enabled developer options, turned the lag fix on and also enforced 90mhz screen all the time, compared the screen side by side to my Pixel XL 2 and theres a huge difference in quality and colours.
Apart from that its pretty much the same as my 2.

Pffft, did you not read the launch hype? The increased bluetooth range means that you can leave the phone back in the locker ;-)I came close to ordering the XL this week but seem to remember the P3 getting a decent discount during black Friday last year so seeing as that's only a month away I'm going to be a tight arse and wait.
I'm liking it. Screen and camera are both excellent, Recorder is awesome (wish I was still a student, the transcripts are great), liking the assistant routines like bedtime and good morning.
Wireless charging is good too as my car has a wireless mat built in and the Google stand means I can retire the old digital clock on the bedside table and just wave at the phone if I want to know the time.
All in all very happy.
Apparently the first 2000 pre-orders came in the cereal box, but I ordered before the missus and hers did and mine didn't. Don't care (all packaging for both is already in the wheelie bin), but very odd.
Oh, and Minesweeper runs like a dream.
My missus knows my PIN anyway, so the eyes closed unlock doesn't bother me at all.

They didn't implement this AND they got rid of the fingerprint sensor? What are they smoking over there at Google?Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
