I've had an idea. Pistonheads, as a community, often proves that it is a community, and we do great deeds for each other.

This may tank, I hope it doesn't.

The challenge is as follows. Members detail a predicament that they have. The predicament is not to be monetary based, but a problem needing solving, a dilemma, help needed with something.

They put their predicament on the thread. Someone has a resolve, can offer the labour, the skill-set, the time, whatever, which they offer.

As a result of this the person who received the help HAS to pay forward the same to another.

An illustration. I restore leather. Say, I'd got myself in a financial muddle. I post about the st show I'm in. A member who is a financial adviser offers their time to me to figure it all out. In that scenario I must owe my skill set to someone else in their own predicament. The obvious one would be to volunteer leather work, BUT, I could elect any other thing I could offer if the requirement arose, be it volunteering manual labour, shifting something in a van, what ever.

The crux is that I (in this instance, anyone in others) would owe a pay it forward, having recieved a favour myself from another.

Who's game. Any of you needing a specific piece of help, which a PH'er could provide?

If it started the ball rolling, and you're not in the Outer Hebrides then I'm game. You'd owe someone something though, whatever that may be wink

Have I understood this right?

The seats in my XKR require your skills. You do this for me, but instead of paying you, I owe a third party X of my time to, say, look after their children for a bit, or help them rewrite their business emails to be more effective or forensically acquire their HDD?

That right?

I'm after a VFR 800 if Scrump is willing to give his away. biggrin

And to take the first P.I.F. Full Circle I can offer to help Fermit with any large format printing ( banners etc) as I live fairly close to him.

You're about there. It's not a 'get Rob to restore your seats for free thread', more a here's my problem (none cash, IE who can pay off my mortgage?) who can help. That could be needing someones knowledge, specialist skill, time, labour, ANYthing that isn't cash centric.

They get the help, they then must pay something forward, whatever that may be.

I'll sleep on that, as that is something I could use. Under the rules I'd then owe someone a favour. Oh, I think I neglected to mention, pay it forward isn't about 'you do me this I'll do you that', it's I get help in a predicament, I owe another one with their need.

Let's see if Scrump comes up with the free motorbike first eh? biggrin

But seriously, if something becomes a closed loop, then great - n pistonheaders helped out and maybe a fresh start from somewhere else.

Just to clarify PR, the concept isn't mine. I saw a film maybe 20 years ago based on this concept. I think PH is a big enough community for it to be our own version of it

I see. I apologise if I seem to have given the impression that I actually wanted the seats in my car restored for free. I don't, it was just the only example of which I could readily think that would involve leather restoration.

That said, it's always useful to know of someone with a rare skill.

I suppose then, while I'm here, does anyone need me to, say, walk their dog or, eerm, search their laptop for indecent images of children? Happy to help if so.

I’m stuck in an arse of a predicament. I am fortunate enough to have built my own house last year. I had a conduit put in the ground to allow me to pass cables from the rear of the garage, so 40m away at the front drive.

After lots of heave ho, head scratching and snapping of a draw cable, I still can’t get the 4mm sq armoured 3-core through the conduit. It’s gets stuck no matter what I try, I don’t think there’s a blockage as the end comes out clean and it doesn’t feel blocked, it just gets harder and harder until it’s just impossible.

I’ve gate men waiting on cable being pulled and fence men waiting on gate men starting and it’s doing my head in. hehe

If someone could magic that problem away for me I’d be very happy to pay forward. I have limited skills as I work in IT security, but I do have a 2 post lift and loads of tools in my garage in Leicestershire to pay forward with. biggrin

Actually, sorry, me again. If anyone can do a very good job restoring the wheels on my XKR, I am willing to pay a substantial value of reciprocal effort (or I could just pay using money, like normal people).

Have you tried lubricating the outside of the cable?
Don't use anything edible like veg oil, or the rats and mice will be at it.

This is free advice and I would only ask that you pass forward some free advice as payment smile

Missing the point by a mile. Money is a transaction. Someone paying you kindness, then you having to pay it forward is about community, which is what PH is.

sorry but the idea of pay it forward is for people wanting a meal who probably cant afford it. many US small restaurants/fast food places do this as a way of people feeding those who have no money/are homeless.

Have you thought of / tried these;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-45275-Toolbox-Cabl...

You might need to get 2 packs of these to get 40m.
