Does anyone have these.

My wife got me them for Christmas and I am sort of happy with them. Sound quality is fine for me better than the AKG ones that came with my Samsung.

Noise canceling works very well for constant noises like my cooker hood on full belt, it could suck the arse off a cat but with the ANC on I can't hear it.
Transparency is also very good, I think I can actually hear better with them in then not.

But I'm not sure if they have a fault or this is how they are.

You have 3 settings for them.
ANC, OFF, and Transparency with them set to Off all I can here is what's in my head like having your fingers in your ears, and obviously the music or whatever you are listening to.

With them set to ANC or transparency there is a definate constant hiss sound.
You don't notice it when listening to any music with the volume up a bit but I also listen to audio books and podcasts that have periods of silence and here you can hear the hiss.

Does any one else have this?

Basically with no sound playing but in your ears they hiss constantly unless you turn all the ANC functions off then silence.

Don't know if I should get Curry's to exchange them to see if it's a faulty pair.

I have them,

The hiss definitely doesn't sound normal. In my experience ANC will be near enough complete silence and the other setting (transparency) you will hear amplified sound around you.

For example I flew 8 hours with the ANC on and it was a lovely quiet flight but with it turned off (transparency mode) the engines were deafening, but no unexpected noises like hissing.

ETA Try apple support first and get on chat with someone (usually pretty quick) and they will help rule out anything obvious.

Thanks for the reply, I will give them a go on chat in the morning.

Just put them in now with nothing playing.

Set to off they are silent but on ANC it sounds like a distant flowing river or waterfall kind of hiss, it's quiet but perfectly clear so not that subtle. And with Transparency it's a higher pitched hiss behind all the other noise., again not loud but with the ANC I would expect near silence.

Sounds weird to me. With mine in and noise cancelling on but no music playing everything is muted and totally quiet. No hiss. With transparency on, and again no music playing, there is no hiss however all sounds are artificially highlighted/amplified. I guess in this mode I may discern an underlying "hum" in certain conditions.

Thanks for the info,

I have just been on the phone with Apple.

Two options, take them to an Apple store or they will post me some replacements out then I return mine.

I don't use Apple stuff I prefer android but have to say I'm pretty impressed with the service so far. Will see what the replacement pods are like.

Returned mine for a full refund..

Mine pass the fit test and I don’t get the hiss. I think they’re great tbh really comfy, I wasn’t going to get them as I had the old ones but my daughter bought some and they didn’t fit her so I ended up buying them off her AND she somehow got my old AirPods for nothing. hehe

ETA mine have just started failing the ear tip test not sure what that’s all about as they are still working fine. Maybe it’s a firmware update?

I find them very comfortable, not sure about the fit test as mine pass with all 3 sizes. I use the largest as they are the most comfortable ones.

New pair in the post from Apple so will see, hopefully no hiss from the new ones.

Just tried mine, no hiss at all in either mode. I have to say, these are the best earphones I’ve ever had. Best sound? Maybe not, but perfectly good for me; nice separation, good bass. Brilliant for phone calls, ANC is fantastic, and they are so convenient.

The biggest problem I had with them was getting them out the case! Then I saw a video showing you how to do it (just pull them towards you) and now I love them so much!

ETA: just noticed that it looks like you have an android phone; AirPod pros have a chip that works specially with iPhones so don’t know if that affects things? Just a thought.

Interesting thread for me as I got my wife some of the Sony noise cancelling WF 100XM3 ear phones for Xmas but she said she wants the Apple AirPod pro as they are are apparently smaller and white in colour so less visible.

If they’re as good as people on here say she’ll be delighted.

I recommend these, expensive but they work and most importantly the microphone works well for calls.

I initially thought the same but I have an iPhone 8 provided for work and it makes the same noise when connected to this also.

I should get the replacements on Monday so will see what happens.

I agree with your opinion on the airpods. Sure 250 is overpriced but it's Apple, but there is no denying how good they are.
Very comfortable good sound and as you say the ANC is very good.

The WF are not very good according to various reviews.
For over ear, I would go with the WH.
For in ear, go with AirPods Pro.

Just for information.

After a couple of calls to apple support I got through to someone that seemed to have some common sense. Rather than asking me to do the same thing over and over again he accepted the argument that I have two airpods and a case. Between them there is one button I can press. There is not a lot of diagnostic you can do with this.

He arranged for another pair of airpods to be shipped to me as getting an appointment at an apple store is a joke.

They ship the replacements but put a hold on £170 on your card and if you don't have them returned in 10 days they take the cash. Anyway they arrived but would not re set or sync after a lot of talking and me asking them to just send a full set they shipped another pair. Oh look the same result wont reset or sync and I now have £340 held on my card.

So now they ship two more airpods and a new charging case whilst holding a further £260 on my card now £600 (hope UPS gets the returns right). This time with the new case everything works, it connects to my phone they re set no problem.

What about the hiss? It's less but I can still here it on both transparency and ANC.

If you have some give it a go. You need use the volume control on your iPhone if you have not enabled the third option. There you can switch between off, ANC and transparency modes.

If you go somewhere quiet, and switch between off and the other settings the only one with no background hiss is Off.

I have tried this with a colleague's and they are the same as mine, its faint but OFF is the only silent one.

I can live with it as it's very quiet, overall I still think they are pretty good.

I have owned many pairs of noise cancelling headphones and ear phones and have always heard a faint hiss from the ANC.

Hissing with ANC is not unusual. No doubt people have varying sensitivity to different frequencies. Every pair of ANC cans I’ve ever tried has exhibited a subtle background hiss when active. When using them solely for noise cancelling (no audio playing) I actually find it quite comforting and relaxing. Like white noise, I guess.

Hmn, how old are you? I'm fifty and they are completely silent in ANC and Transparency mode for me. Maybe you just have really good hearing? In which case, be thankful! hehe

AHHHHH !!! You said the 'T' word ... I'll now have a few hours of mine getting on my nerves !! biggrin

Agree with what others have said... My XM2's another pair of Sony's ( cant remember model ) and some Goldring phones all have a slight hiss. Wish the Tinnitus was just a slight hiss :-(
