What you got?

I have a really old one that has started to go. Double pressing keys, missing altogether etc.

It’s had a decent clean. It to no avail.

It has really loud clicks keys which I don’t mind but those around me have threatened physical violence before.

So, what you got? Budget is no more than £150, not bothered about it lighting up RGB. I’m more interested in the feel, weight and great quality. 104 key a bonus but not a deal breaker.

Thanks, I found this article. I THINK that T3 is a mob that have always seemed impartial. So not just putting at the top those whom have paid them to do so?

Corsair K63 and the lapboard to go with it. It's for the game PC connected to the TV so I wanted something sofa friendly instead of balancing keyboard and mouse on my legs and the armrest. I like it so far, a bit different to MacBook and Mac slim keyboards I'm used to though hehe

I have the CORSAIR K95 RGB PLATINUM. It’s a great keyboard and often wins the best keyboard award in reviews. If it doesn’t win it’s normally due to price.

It’s rare a main stream product is so highly regarded but they have got it right with this one.

I had a Ducky too. IIRC it had Cherry Brown switches, which started to bounce after a few years. Went back to a cheap old membrane keyboard and haven't missed mechanical since.

Don't forget you can buy various cherry switches which can affect the clicky sound.

I think I chose a clicky one on purpose because i hadn't had a mechanical keyboard for a long time before i got this one

i don't use it for gaming i should add...

Also have a Corsair mechanical keyboard, its a really nice unit, owned it about 6 years now, feel is good and its well built, has multi coloured back lighting and looks pretty good overall.
You will need to try out a few to see which ones you like best smile

I have a few.

Keychron K2
Unicomp Classic (clone / continuation of the IBM Model M)
Realforce R2 Limited (Topre Keys)
Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional 2 (Topre Keys)
Ducky One2 Horizon

Plus a corsair K95 and a steelseries which I couldn't get on with.

Out of them all, the Realforce is my favourite. Topre Keys are amazing. The keychron / Unicomp classic are my number two favourites, but are a bit loud for things like conference calls! (I work from home, so pissing off the office with clacky noises is limited to annoying the wife).

I didn't pay for that for it. If you mean the Realforce, then it's £260 on amazon.

And given using a keyboard with a computer is the very basis of my job, career and pays the mortgage, funds the family and toys, then I'd rather have the best I can get given my hands are on it for 10 hours a day.

(besides, if you want to see batst insane, go look at /r/MechanicalKeyboards on reddit. People there spend upwards of a grand on a single "artisan" keycap which has a small sculpture built into it)

I actually looked on there first, then I came here for more frugal options.

Some cheapo thing from Amazon (could have been eBay) for about £15 a few years ago. Out of curiosity when I had a spare £15.

It's good. Lacks the number keys on the right hand side which makes it annoying from time to time. Would I spend another £15 if it broke tomorrow? Yes. Would I spend £150 for a replacement? Probably not.

(Not a gamer either. My own PC, used to pay my mortgage and run my own business.)

I enjoy the tactile.feel of a mechanical but I'm also not a gamer. I do a lot of typing (computers also keep a roof over our heads).

For some daft reason having a nice feeling keyboard and a good screen lightens the load when I know I have a shed load of plans to write, employees to mock or argue with people on the internet biggrin.

This will be connected to a dock that will at any given time connect to a Mac for home or Windows 10 when I'm working from home. We will see how that pans out. I don't want a multitude of colours but I like a backlight, reading the reviews of this one (of course AFTER purchase) the lights can only be set to what you want when you have accompanying software running at all times. The lights can be switched off completely from the keyboard but as I said I like some illumination.

Anyway, shall report back when it gets here tomorrow.

Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry Browns at home.
An older (pre-RGB LED fad) Cooler Master MasterKeys in the office.
Plus an MX 3.0 with Reds in a drawer in the office.

Also had a couple of Corsairs, Logitechs and a Ducky.

Filco is exceptional- zero frills and still ~£140, but head and shoulders above anything else in terms of how pleasant it is to use.

This isn’t aimed at the OP, but it never ceases to amaze me how incredibly tight people are when it comes to spending money on the tools that earn their entire living.

I work with guys who get paid £400-600 a day, for years on end, and getting them to part with £1200 for a new laptop when their old one is faltering is like you are asking them to hand over their life savings.

It is literally the only tool they will use, all day every day, for several years, while earning their living.

I have to remind them that it’s two days wages.

My living depends on my laptop, an external drive, and dual monitors for when I’m working from home and maybe a few other minor bits and pieces. So I buy the very best of everything.
