Still at the kitchen table for me, that we covered with some sticky back plastic.

Started new job on 5th October (100% home based), so they sent me one of the Dell monitors, keyboard, mouse, headset and docking station. I'm staying here until after the winter, then my Dad and I are building an garden office.

So it looks like monitors are covered well in this thread but now the evenings are drawing in, I feel my home office is too dark. What’s the recommended set up for lighting?

I defo need to upgrade and wonder if a desk lamp is enough or if I’ll also need to change my ceiling lights as well
Do you need lighting for video conferencing, or just a puddle of light on your desk?
Mostly working at desk but VC 4 to 5 hours as week.

Read up on ‘bias lighting’...

It improves contrast and reduces eye fatigue. A simple warm white LED strip behind your monitors, activated via USB when you turn on your PC is a neat solution.

Nothing like you flash, loaded PH director types have here:

My £10 desk and chair from Gumtree

Completely coincidentally from the end of my village street!

Windows 7 displaying a "Please Wait" message. The irony is strong here.

it's a Govt agency I work for, their set up

What you've said means nowt to be, I'm a rural field based worker and have to use the computer for "stuff". It's hard to be interested in. Interestingly the Govt Agency thinks it's unsafe for us to work in the office BUT quite safe to work in the farm based situations they send me to working with other people most of them non Gov employees

that printer is taking a lot of space - does it need to be there all the time?

yes that's why it's there, it may look it but I don't find it obtrusive. TBH that room never got used prior to lockdown and WFH so at least it is now. It's a cottage but quite big with just me and the dog rattling around in it. I suppose I only use 1/3 of it. If I could be bothered (I can't I hate hassle) I really should sell up and move.

Acoustic panels...

Just get carpet, some soft furnishings to soften the sound echoing off sharp hard edges, job jobbed.

Have you ever noticed how when you redecorate a room and take everything out it's all echo-ey, then it just goes away when there's some things to cushion the sounds.

That looks pretty decent to me, it's functional. I would try to fine a small stand to place the printer though to get more desk space.

Excellent companion smile

I have a cozy spot for home working in my garage but also have similiar setup as yours in my bedroom, in case the it's too cold in the winter.

I know that. The room has new carpet but also a new wardrobe (we needed the storage) and where the desk had to go caused awful echo during conference calls. No space for more soft furnishings. Panels installed, perfect. They've worked wonders. smile

White house situation room. The second chair from the right has a knackered gas strut - keeps slowly sinking.

It's a John Lewis Abraham chair.
Are you pleased with the chair? Had a look on JL and the reviews are pretty awful.

Really liking the gas strut arms I bought recently. Really transformed the way I work as I can stand and work using the laptop keyboard/touchpad.

I would prefer a wider curved monitor, or a dual monitor setup though.

Just need a decent chair now? Nothing too pricey. Looking for something slimline but comfy and stylish. Unfortunately this all sits in a corner of my front room, so don't want a chair that overpowers that space.
