You'll get used to it!
I think I already am! Its great being able to pop windows to wherever you want and have them all on one screen (and big enough to use) - right now I have PH 3/5s of the left screen, email most of the right hand side with another window above with the radio player in it. I can see how useful it'll be once I start actual work! Have also scaled to 125% as otherwise it all felt a bit too small. Looks ridiculous on our dining room table but hopefully will shrink a bit on a desk against the wall! Loving it thecrow said:

Brilliant, thank you - I used to use image resizer all the time and thought it had died. The other stuff looks really useful too - much appreciated.Install Microsoft's PowerToys and explore the "fancy zones" feature.

New screen is here - this will be me until the new office is decorated. Had not considered just how massive this screen would be, whoops!
It's also only 1 HDMI input & 1 power outlet being needed. I'm already up to 12 on my existing setup.
What screen and how big is that?

Same panel is in all 21:10 screens with this resolution, LG makes them and others wrap them in their own packaging. They are lovely but not for macOS.Horace Van Khute said:

I have one attached to my Mac mini as my main machine. I think it's awesome!! I'm using moom for window management...As I mentioned earlier in this thread mac OS is designed to look best on "retina" screens (retina being minimum 4k for an external screen size 21inch+) .
Funnily enough the screenshot I provided earlier uses your panel as an example - left is your screen (this would apply to any other non "retina" screen), right is the "retina" screen.
Surely though what you are showing is simply the result of a High DPI screen (retina) v's a low DPI screen. Of course the latter is going to look worse when it's blown up - as it would on Windows too.
I do get your argument that MacOS is, unsurprisingly, developed with retina displays in mind, whereas Windows is actually the opposite, it came from more humble origins and has to look good on a variety of hardware, much of it low and mid range devices unlike the high end experience of a Mac.
I think you'll find most people aren't too bothered, after all, they've put up with Windows and all its inconsistencies and poor design for however many decades

Yeah, but just because many people aren't bothered doesn't change the fact that Apple over the years stopped caring about non retina screens, which is fair I guess because that's not their niche. I experienced this decline throughout the years as my main and only laptops for years had been MBA's. The change (especially around 2015/2016) was just too painful hence I went for MBP in the end. And then when I wanted to get a bigger screen for it and saw what is going it clicked. Running Windows in bootcamp on same hardware/screen produced amazingly clear picture.
BTW above picture isn't mine, I sourced it from this discussion (on the subject of people being not bothered)

...because they want people to pay through the nose for their officially branded hardware, rather than being able to go off and give money to somebody else.deckster said:

That can't be it, plenty of manufacturers make 4k screens.I think their move to higher res screens isn't all bad. Although I disagree re the difference on a 27" 4k vs a 27" QHD. There's a limit to what you can see.
Apple applies this to their iPhone, who most of the time have lagged behind the pack in terms of screen tech and pixel density, but it's always been "good enough".
"retina" is a meaningless term which they coined as "more than your eye can discern". Which is subjective. There's a measure for this, I think it's angular resolution or screen density, which is a combination of the distance to the screen and the ppi of the screen.
Per that measure, the "Retina" monniker on the iPhone 4 at 30cm from your face translates to almost bang on the money 1440p (QHD) on a 27" at 70cm.
So then you "up" that to "HD Retina", which I guess means "your eye can certainly not discern the pixels on this!".

On Windows the difference between 27" 4k vs a 27" QHD (1440p) is fairly unnoticeable. On mac OS (I know I'm repeating myself) they made sure you notice it. iMac (which is a 27inch screen) does 1440p effective with screen that is 5120×2880.I think their move to higher res screens isn't all bad. Started a spreadsheet today to compare monitors.
Some maybe most of the bigger ultrawide don't have a pixels per inch greater than my 1920 x 1080 24" monitor... which is noticeably inferior to my 24" 2560 x 1440p monitor.
So are a lot of people buying big screens that are not that sharp?
Will post the comparison tomorrow when I fire up the workstation again.
Think I have been spoilt with this QHD 24" work monitor. Want to replace 2 monitors with one, and not have less pixel density than my 1440p monitor. Am scaling atv125% so could go bigger. 43" seems good. 49" looks like a monster and pixel density is lower.
