I haven't finished doing all the cable routing and tidying yet but done a good chunk more than is shown here.
Managed to get this finished this evening.

Hi,
Can I ask where you got the desk top/table top from? I've been looking to do the same but only seem to get odd sizes when I look for Desk/Table Tops, Kitchen worktops or Brekfast bars.

Similar to you I want something about 70cm Deep, and about 170cm - 200cm long...

Here's my current home office. I have a dual boot PC which was ordered as a works server but I accidentally added a 3090 and a few M.2's and now I have a second games machine upstairs. What I like is that when I am working I cannot game as they are on the other OS drive.

All ready for BF2042. I bought two copies by mistake so now I can play with a friend while I play on the big screen downstairs smile

I got it via House of Worktops' Amazon store - https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/House+of+Worktops/...

They have a good selection in common sozes at pretty low prices including beech, oak and walnut, but IIRC they don't do some of the oak ones in 720mm depth, only 620, which is a bit narrow for a desk IMO.

You can customise them via their Amazon store too, eg I had the front corners rounded and the whole thing edge profiled 3mm. They also do cut to length.

I've been WFH since August last year, kinda cosy really but I also edit photos here too so pretty much spent most of my days in front of the workstation so some things had to be a bit more enjoyable than what I'd otherwise have like the sound system!

(the keyboard was changed recently to the Logitech MX Keys)

A small ornament of my car too lol

And lastly, as it's the latest thing I did, beefed up the PC with Intel's s latest to maximise productivity speed (or so I told myself):

Nice setup you have there.

I see a lot of people using desk mounts instead of wall mounts, I wonder why that is in general? Avoid drilling holes?
I can see the need when having a standing/sitting desk, but otherwise a wall mount seems cleaner, cheaper and more rigid to me?

Desk mounted allows you to hide the cables behind the stand, I suppose? That’s cleaner to me, and I don’t like trunking on the wall as a solution…

That said, I’ve got a glass table that I like, but it makes cable management / hiding more or less impossible. I’m very tempted to get a new desk after seeing some of the pictures on here.

I've wall-mounted my main gaming monitor but that was mainly because it's a mahoosive 43" panel and a narrow-ish desk. So the monitor took up a huge amount of space and also the extra few inches of distance does make a difference in terms of eye comfort. For everything else, the monitors still sit on the desk.

Wall mounting things always seems so permanent, but then again my office desk has been in the same place for 15 years so that's more of a philosophical objection to wall mounting than a practical one smile

Easy access to the back if needed being one reason really as well as neat/tidy. I've had this arm for over 10 years and it's been solid and takes up very little desk space.

Plus if I ever move the desk around the room then don't need to be worried about the wall mounting being redone and leaving holds in the wall etc!

Aside from the sit stand aspect, desk mounts are easier to cable tidy and they tend to articulate in more natural and useful ways. It's easier to move monitors around in a way that's centred on your head and torso when they're attached to a desk rather than a wall.

Plus fully adjustable dual monitor wall mounts are horrible to use, because you can never access any of the various hex bolts and sockets used to adjust things like gas arm pressure or stiffness of the arms.

It's the 5000D Airflow yep but with Arctic PST PWM fans.

It doesn't move when I wiggle it, seems fixed at that "level" - Is what it is I guess. There is a heat plate on the top side too that's attached to the bottom section with the 3 fans. It's a Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super OC and quite heavy really.

Maybe time to get one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B076GYL25H/ref...

That's a good idea, there's a few youtube videos on easy fixes too including using any spare covers from the rear of the PC slots (that were removed, like for a graphics card to go)

Yup seen that particular mod but I don't want to cut down the tab to make that work as at some point may well sell this case! The bracket however does look a bit more fit and finish if that makes sense and it's only like £6 biggrin

I have my screens wall mounted, but that is because I also have my desk wall mounted. I have 2 cable management holes in the desk that all cables run through, and some of that zip up 'trunking' that makes it look tidier. I may at some point cut some holes in the wall to run some of the cables through, but that is a reasonable amount of work and faff, so not a priority.

Now having the desk wall mounted, I much prefer that to having desk legs getting in the way.

Hi,

Thanks for your informative replies.

I've just ordered the Flexispot E6 Desk frame using the 10% off if you subscribe to their newsletter on the back of your recommendation. How are you finding it?

Your link to the House of Worktops store is great, and a better price and sizes than I was previously looking at. I am now debating whether to go for Oak and which type, Beech, etc. Also debating the thickness (27mm vs 40mm).

Did you order yours pre-oiled or do it yourself? Assume yours is a Beech (debating between that and Oak). Also, did you pre-drill your holes in the worktop and what size screw did you opt for?

I'm getting to the end of my garage office project (build thread here if your interested https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... Tomorrow should see the second fix electrics and flooring go down, hence why I am looking at/ordering the desk now which for me is the most important part!

Great job on yours.

Thanks! Your garage office is looking great

1) I've been really impressed with the E6. It's very quiet, really well made and sturdy. There's quite a lot of weight on mine, the desktop is about 35kg, my PC another 25, 2 10kg each monitors on a 5kg stand plus another 5 to 10 kg of other stuff. The motors have no issue shifting the weight. There's a small amount if side to side movement if you firmly push the desk but no worse than any other sit/stand I've used.

My only real gripe with it is that some of the instructions, particularly about how to extend the crossbar to accommodate a very large (160cm+) desktop are a bit rubbish.

I prefer a thinner desktop hence going for 27mm. 40 is a bit chunky IMO and significantly heavier, plus it means slightly less space under the desk with the top at a set height. In sitting mode I have the frame at 75cm which gives me loads of room under the desk to move my legs, push my chair arms under etc. I don't think that losing 13mm of this would make a huge difference in my case but it might in someone else's. I also have an under desk drawer which is 70cm (a pretty standard height) which should fit perfectly without hitting the crossbar. With a thicker desktop you might not be able to get standard size drawers under it.

2) I ordered mine unoiled and oiled it myself. The reasoning for this is that if you read the small print they only do two costs of oil so you'd have to do another 1-2 coats anyway, so I thought I might as well save the money and do it all myself as I had Danish oil anyway.

I built the frame then lifted it upside down onto the upturned worktop to mark out the holes with a bradawl and then drilled them with a 4mm bit to about 20mm depth. The kit comes with 12 ST4.2 screws in I think 25mm and there's a rubber washer on each of the screw holes. I was a bit concerned they might be a bit small for such a heavy desktop but no issues so far including lifting it up by the desktop to turn it over. You can see their placement in this picture.

You could use a bigger screw like an ST6.3 bit would probably need to find one under 30mm to avoid the risk of breaking through the tabletop and might have to remove or widen the holes in the rubber washers.
