I have a huawei mate 20x that I have had since its hong kong release date.
For me it is perfect in almost every way, brilliant screen, great battery life, and I love the aspect ratio and form factor, and the properly flat screen, I absolutely hate curved edge screens.
I am a realist though, I have hammered this thing day in day out for nearly 2 years, my work involves heavy phone use in building site environments and nothing lasts forever.
When this does call it a day I cant see anything else that ticks my boxes like this one does.
For me the absolutely perfect phone would be this one, just with added waterproofing, and maybe the latest camera tech.
When this does chooch its last does anyone have any suggestions of massive screen phones to replace this with?
google play services are quite important too, mine is of an age where huawei still has them.

I have the P20 pro and I think its a brilliant phone, the screen is smaller then yours but I do think its going to be my last Huawei due to the lack of Google support. It is my 2nd Huawei phone and they have been faultless.

2 of my work friends have the P30 mate which is the bigger screen size and both say its brilliant, so that may be an option for you. It still has google support.

I was very very tempted by one of those - for various reasons I never did buy one.

Closest I can see today in terms of screen size are Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra (6.9 inch) or Note 10 Plus (6.8 inch), but both are near or over the £1000 mark if bought sim free. Not sure where you stand in terms of that kind of money on a phone. Galaxy A71 is a paltry 6.7 inches but rather more reasonable money. Once you drop down a little bit from 7 inches to 6.5 or a bit over, most Android manufacturers have something that would meet your requirements.

To be honest, you can still buy the Mate 20x new on Amazon....if it's perfect for you there's always the argument of just replacing it with the same...or the slightly newer 5g variant.

Edit - or as above the Huawei P30 was the last Huawei flagship with Google services. And they recently pulled a neat trick of releasing an updated model of the P30, conveniently using a loophole of it not technically being a new model, therefore retaining the use of Google...

I dont mind spending a grand, but my last samsung note 8 was a bad experience, massive screen burn after 1 year, and battery life and general performance halved by around 18 months, the huawei still has the same battery life and performance has improved from firmware updates at 20 moths old. A lot of the reviews point out flaws in the ultra that shouldnt exist at that price.
If there isnt anything comparable and this does go tits up at some point I would probably just buy the same again then, was just wondering if I had missed anything alternative. I need to be a bit more careful with this one, dropped it a couple of times working up a ladder.
the 5g version has a smaller battery and no headphone jack, I would probably stick with the 4g since the 5g rollout is so slow anyway.
Waterproofing would be really nice though that is the one and only thing I miss from my samsung, although the samsung would constantly reboot in seawater for some reason.
do those dip coatings that claim to make a phone waterproof actually work enough to take my phone jetskiing?

I have a Samsung S9 and have to say it's been a great phone for the last 18 months. But...

I'm a heavy phone user and I have to carry an Anker around now to top it up during the day. I would say with light to reasonable use the battery would last 6-7 hours tops. There has been no screen burn at all, unlike it's predecessor to S7. I know the S9 isn't what you are looking for, I'm just saying the screens have improved massively but battery life may be an issue down the line. I'm still on contract with EE until October, then I'll be buying my phone and going sim only and will be in the same boat as you.

If you are a heavy user consider the 20x, I use mine all day, aiming 4k cctv cameras streaming over 4g, youtube music and sat nav at the same time between jobs, endless bluetooth calls, hotspotting to my laptop, stuff that would see my samsung dead within 4-5 hours this can survive a 16 hour work day with charge to spare without charging during the day.

No issues with screen burn in on my nearly year old Note 10 Plus. I suspect the issue will become less prevalent generally as display tech improves.

Equally no noticeable degradation in battery life, but I can be quite anal about battery management hehe

I’m not a massive fan of the Samsung skin of Android, I just like the S Pen, and it or the Huawei 20X as the op has are the only games in town with that feature.

Not quite as big as a 7'' display but there is a Xiaomi Note 9 Pro on Hotukdeals for £189 from amazon with a 6.7'' display and it looks very good value at that price.

Will possibly get something similar when my Galaxy S8 contract ends in a couple of months. The S8 has been okay but I've cracked the screen and I'd definitely like a phone I don't have to charge every single day. I just need to check that the camera is not completely atrocious.

The forthcoming Nokia 8.3 5g is due sometime soon (hopefully) and has a 6.9 inch screen for around £500.

Ive a Galaxy s8 now for 2 years and the battery is lasting less than half a day. I'm a fairly heavy user across apps for various reasons but I'm regularly charging it up now. Frustrating when the phone is perfectly capable and ethically could easily last a couple more years if the battery was better.

I want to replace it with something that has a better camera, good battery and likely android. Not bothered about curve screen as I never use it to it's potential. Previously had Moto phones which while budget, they were great. Camera aside they did everything I needed from them.

I'd not even realised it was possible. Do Samsung do genuine battery replacement?

Yes they do, they will come to your home address or place of work to do it and the work is done outside in their kitted out van. I have booked them to come and replace the battery in my wifes S9 on Monday as she is having the same issues with battery. They charge 89.99 I believe for it and will also do other repairs screens etc.

I believe they franchise it out but it is Samsung approved.

After wasting some time and money on a z fold i finally found the perfect replacement for a huawei 20x, the vivo x note.
Absolutely fantastic screen on it.
Much nicer to use than a samsung.
