Got drunk .......... ordered a Chromebook !!
Discussion
I bought an Acer R11 on a bit of an impulse a few years back (though hugely cheaper than the OPs machine) and still use it regularly though I do have a fairly high spec desktop PC as well. Even with it's outdated Celeron it still boots in a few seconds and is plenty fast enough for web browsing and a few games etc. and a full charge lasts around 10 hours.
I gave the same model to my mother as a Christmas present a couple of years and it's been her salvation during lockdown for online ordering and online banking and watching Netflix etc. No worries about viruses or having to reinstall operating systems, a "power flush" is a few clicks away if you somehow manage to mess things up badly.
That said I wouldn't be rushing to plunk a grand down on one, though I have no doubt it will be a fantastic machine.

Thanks, that was a good review.Bought my daughter the Asus C523 with touch screen for Christmas and I think it is brilliant. The lack of a delete key was annoying at first but we've worked it out now.
It's not a flip laptop like the OP's but similar styling and has a slim light alloy case, long battery, intel pentium processor and four USB connectors - two of which are USB C with which you can drive external monitors.
Crucially though, it was £249 from John Lewis. I am a fan of Chromebooks in general and I have a Pixel 2XL phone (generally a fan of Google), but I am struggling to understand how an additional £750 works here.
I must admit that I was almost caught up in wanting to buy a Pixelbook Go but then I looked at my daughter's again and... well, they just don't do everything I need them too and at that price they bloody well ought to.

I ran several ChromeOS devices for years (basically from when they first came out). my most recent was a LG Chromebase which up until this month was brilliant, unfortunately the OS/Security stopped getting updates as it came to the end of its life so I installed ElementaryOS (Linux) on it instead.
Unless you use specific software you should be able to adapt pretty quickly.
Made sister & mum switch to ChromeOS as was getting sick of the usual, this Windows laptop has an error or wont do this.

I bought a Lenovo C340 11.6 inch from Amazon about a week ago for around £200.
It'd replacing a Samsing XE303 that sits in my car. I have a Chromebook in each car, so that when I turn up at a coffee shop/services/waiting for someone, I have something keyboardy to get online without thinking about lugging it with me.

We bought one for about half that (very similar Asus) earlier this year.
I've been very impressed and I don't think it'd be too overpriced at 800 GBP.
1000 seems a bit steep, but Asus is at the top of the food chain in terms of quality the past years imho.
"not having internet connection" might have been an issue a decade ago but these days...

surely you are going to send it back.
It's a gloirified internet browser - and you can get plenty of them for a lot less.
£100 less right now for the same one....
Brain says yes but heart says......I've been playing with it for two days coughing and sneezing all over it (heavy smoker) it doesn't sit right with me to send it back based on a price drop. It's a gloirified internet browser - and you can get plenty of them for a lot less.

So yes on the whole it's a glorified browser but really is a quality bit of kit that gives me what I want with no more hassle. Windows can kiss my arse.
I had cause to use my old laptop last night it was quite a chore! The comparison in speed and screen quality was a real eye opener. So farewell Mr.Gates It was fun but hope your next st is a hedgehog

Since then we have had various tablets and work computers.
None of them boot up faster than the chrome book.
16G of storage and I think she may be near 50pc full.
The thing just keeps on working.....
I get the appeal, but at £1k it's a hard pull to swallow when you can get near same of usable functions for half the price.

But a large majority of folk don't use the potential.
If that's the measuring stick, 90% of all laptops should be chromebooks.ZesPak said:

They very probably should be. People would likely be amazed at just how fast stuff runs and how long battery lasts. The only slight fly in the ointment is that Google is at least as evil as Microsoft these days in terms of privacy.
