Windows update won't complete

My newish laptop less than 2 months old has started to update and has been in this state for over 4 hrs. Can't turn off or restart or anything.

What happens when you hold the power key down for 10 seconds - normally forces the machine (most laptops that is) to force power-off.

I disabled update years ago, maybe do one once a year now.
Life's too short.

What about security updates or are you happy to chance it?

I update defender and let it do it's stuff.

Windows updates are a joke.

All sorted now.
Holding the power button down didn't force a shutdown
Fortunately the battery did not have a lot of charge so I left it for 2 days and go out of charge.
Plugged in this morning and then turned on, the update was at 85% so then finished off and all ok.
There is a 'new' version of Edge installed.
