Sorted the heat issue. It must have been an app running location services in the background. Turned a load off and cool as a cool thing now.

Could it have been Photos re-indexing and doing the AI recognition of people/photos?

Mine's gone from 3-4 weeks to now not having an estimated date. I normally buy direct from Apple but have gone for Vodafone this time, do they still lock their phones to their network?
Yes.. but looks easy enough to unlock :-

Thanks Jim, I was wondering if this was the hold up. Looking like the end of November now.

LeadFarmer and H0B0, I am no expert, but I sync my iPhone using the Finder, rather than iTunes. Connect phone to MacBook, Phone will appear under "Locations" in the Finder and you can then do your stuff with sync, or whatever.

H0B0, having reread your posts, I suspect this won't help you if you are using a non-Mac computer.

I think Vodafone still do.

New rules mean that from December 2021 locking handsets to a mobile network will be banned.

A few issues appearing with the Magsafe charger, it's possible to damage magnetic the strip on cards, and cards, keyfobs etc. with RFID chips. Apple are now warning not to leave your Magsafe near your wallet, keys, passport etc. and before you Magsafe charge your iPhone remove any magnetic card wallet. The other thing is the circular charger itself marking soft case materials like leather or silicon.

Form not just over function, but form over destroying your cards!

Staggering.

It absolutely is. The original MagSafe was designed so if you trip over the cable it would pull out and leave the laptop on the desk.

From what I’ve read, this would simply drag the iPhone onto the floor along with it. Especially as it’s underneath it.

Making a wireless charger magnetic almost just makes it a wired connection. You’re supposed to be able to sit it down and pick it up with one hand for convenience.

And it’s twice as slow as a normal fast charger.

It’s surely just paving the way for no ports. It makes no sense otherwise.

Is Magsafe just wireless charging but just with a magnet so that the device doesn't move around, or is there more to it than that?

Yep, I agree with all of that.

It's a gimmick. Most of the appeal of wireless charging is that you can just pick up the phone without having to unplug a cable - you can't do that with magsafe. The only real benefit of magsafe is that you're guaranteed proper alignment with the charging pad every time.

Yep. I have a wired desk dock which I can plug in and unplug one handed and is much faster than MagSafe too. It cost a fiver I think about 5 years ago. Still works perfectly.

What cases have people gone with? I went without a case and screen protector on my green 11 Pro, and its not in very good condition, so I've learned my lesson here

Can't decide between the Pacific Blue or the Graphite, if I went for the blue I'd want a case that shows the colour, but interested to see what is available that doesn't add too much bulk but still protects the phone

I'm also vexed at the use of "MagSafe" - which was a truly brilliantly useful thing on MacBooks irked

I've got the Apple clear case, nice quality and very sturdy but rather ugly circle on the back due to MagSafe grumpy

I've previously managed to scratch a camera lens and I have a clumsy wife and kids so wanted to keep my phone well protected -

I’ve had a Mous limitless case on my XS for a couple years. It’s had some hard knocks and has been great. Highly recommended.
