I monitor ebay prices for 2080ti as I have been buying a few over the last 4 months.

There is a definite moment now that feels that we are no longer at peak prices. The "sold/completed" for 2080ti are in the £800s where they were in the £900s a few weeks ago.

Buy it now prices for all cards have dropped, RTX 3080 cards can be bought for £1400 now, instead of £2000+ some are still high but if anyone searches they will find the lower priced cards.

PS, bottom line prices were £1600 I think the higher prices over £2000 for an FE are just chancers.

Thanks to the telegram links for Scan I just picked up a 3080 for £649. Going back to their site the page still works but there is no add button - though of course I'm still logged in - I was wondering if Steven_RW is correct about losing shine, but then I think I was just quick enough as I had pre-set my login and was at my PC when the alert came through so was going to the page within ~30 seconds.

Of course if there's a sudden price drop next week as it's no longer wanted I'll cry

I managed to pick up an RTX 3070 this morning from Scan, by the time I saw the alert the 3080s had gone but I'm happy as it's still a decent step up from my 2070 Super and will help boost the frame rates in VR sim racing.

Before I put my 2070 Super on eBay does anyone want first refusal? Happy to sell it for less than the going rate to a PH'er if there is any interest.

2070 Super cards are still selling on Ebay for between £550 and £700. To break even with a 3070 (as I did) you need to sell on ebay for £550 (minus Ebay fees) will return £482. Scan RTX 3070 is £480 (inc p&p). Don't bother with auction just put it on as a buy it now sale at the price you want to sell it at, there are plenty of people who miss out on auctions and just want to buy a card.

You could end up with a new card and it won't cost you a penny. Be quick though, prices are dropping.

Obviously you'd need to get the new card first before selling but I put mine on Ebay as soon as I had a confirmed order, it sold less than 2 days later and was in the post on the 3rd the same day the 3070 arrived in the post.

No problem I'm getting a solid 80 FPS in rFactor 2 on my Valve Index VR headset, but on medium to lowish detail. I'm looking to up the detail a bit and get the frame rates to 90 FPS so hopefully the 3070 is up to it.

Basket button not appearing means that all the available stock is in the process of going through the purchase process ... Not necessarily the end though as Scan decline quite a few purchases (strict checking for scalpers and limiting cards to one per customer, ever, means that some will get rejected either for legitimate reasons or just bad luck and falling foul of the checks for some reason).

I got my 3070FE that way - the FE cards are typically gone after 1 or 2 mins of going live at most (and alerts are often not instantaneous, maybe up to 2 mins late) but as long as you can see the product page, the chance is there. Just keep refreshing and you might get lucky with a rejected sale being returned for purchase.

Sucky situation at the moment (and for almost a year) but I do get the feeling that things are starting to improve on the GPU front generally.

Regarding the price drop comment. Do you mean you want to sell it and you are talking about the ebay resell prices going down? Regardless, the 3080 is the best value for money card known to man. It's quite strange to highlight that £650 is extreme VFM but compared to every other option, price to performance, it is fantastic. As is the standard 3070. I truly don't think you can go wrong by getting hold of a founders 3080. You could always sell it for exactly standard price within 60 seconds of posting the advert on ebay, so your money is safe and in terms of owning it for yourself, it is a beast of a card and top end VFM.

I've never managed to secure a 3080 as when the alerts go off, I click on 3090 as it is the ultimate (miles worse VFM..) and I assume there will be less people wanting one so I was hoping I had more chance to secure one as less competition. So far it's worked.

Nah - meant was I going to find a week later I could get it for less money

On another note, I normally keep my old graphics card as a back up and while my 1080ti is almost 4 years old it is tempting to put it on eBay - interestingly enough, though by the time I bought it the card had been out for a good 6 months to a year, it was still more expensive than what I've just paid for the 3080 (£716.99 v £649.00).

Good news - GPUs are still not exactly affordable but at least the momentum towards crazier and crazier prices has been arrested and is hopefully starting to go in the other direction.

Given the general direction of inflation though, I think we are looking at typically spending ~£600 for 3070 performance and ~£800 for 3080 performance even when stock availability becomes good.

I also suspect NVidia will drop their own FE cards once general supply gets better - in the past they have been limited run and/or more expensive than AIB cards. They seem to have kept producing and selling small numbers of the original FEs to maintain the illusion of the prices that they originally announced.
.. Until they decided to get their arms in with the 3070Ti and especially, the 3080Ti FE cards of course.
