I was tempted to ordering an EVGA 3080 for FS2020 on 4K but reading the specs here it’s a PCie 4 card - what does that mean if I have a PCIe 3 MoBo?
A new mobo, obviously.
Which means a new CPU and memory.
Duh.

I have a 2014 vintage rig with a AMD FX-9370 8 core/8 thread... which was good at the time.

R9 280X card, which just doesn't cut it.

Debated upgrading for a while, and glad I held off.

This "can you run it" simulator thinks that, it's still GPU that bottlenecks not CPU for high settings... (hidden behind thumbsnap logo)

So as an interim, would banging the latest card in my current setup get me something that would just about work until I can dover the funds to update mobo, RAM and CPU?

Or are these CYRI calculators a load of bks?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3izKyB4u28&t=... - have a watch, Steve covers the FX8370 in the latest games across a selection of graphics cards.

Spent some more time last night with 'Control' and DLSS .... It really is an amazing technology.

1440p Ultra settings with all ray tracing on and my 2070 S is not in its comfort zone at about 33 fps.

DLSS on and i'm getting around 60fps and I'll be damned if I can see any loss in quality.

Hopefully more devs will take it onboard .

Cyberpunk uses DLSS. Not long to go.

Great stuff didn't know that. I'm hoping it will rekindle my interest in games..... Mind you I did enjoy Outer Worlds.

It looks like pre-orders aren't a thing with these cards. Is it basically going to be impossible to get one at RRP this side of Christmas?

Just tried running this on my son's set up.

Ryzen 5 1600 4core 3.2GHz
RTX 2060 Super
16Gb RAM
1Tb M2 SSD

1440p COD MW
Low - 97FPS
Med - 75
High 49
Ultra - 36

All GPU limited

We are running everything on Ultra and get 75FPS, so I'm wary of the accuracy of this. Even if I apply an MSI Afterburner overclock curve and up the power, we don't see much improvement in FPS, just higher thermals. VRAM Usage is high at 7Gb +.

I don't think it's very accurate, it claims at high settings my R5 2600 / RTX 2060 Super will only achieve 48 FPS on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and will only hit 34 fps at Ultra.

I ran the benchmark a while back on all Ultra except depth of field, pure hair and Screen space shadows on high. And Ray tracing ultra on. Average 71fps at 1080p.

It's in the 90s with RTX off.

An article in TechRadar suggests they may not be readily available until mid-2021 - apparently there are still some issues at Samsung with the 8nm node these GPUs are built on.

So pick up some cheap RTX 2080 Ti's now then sell them back at a profit when the sellers find they have to wait over 6 months for their 3080 smile

At OCUK you can click on the Add to Basket button next to the EVGA 3080 and the next screen tells you “Your basket is empty”. I guess it’s FS2020 on medium for a while longer then...

I really don't know what to make of this. Scan are offering pre-built (configured) RTX 3080 option for half the price of a 2080 Ti and even less than a 2080 Super.

Add a 3080 - £649.99
Add a 2080 Super - £719.99
Add a 2080 Ti - £1,141.99

Bonkers, or a mistake?

And the 3090 is still only £20 more than a 2080 Ti - https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/corsair-ic...
