Whats app new privacy terms Feb 8th agree or leave.
Discussion
Can't see a thread on this so.
New terms from the 8th Feb changing how they are going to share your information with their group of companies Facebook Instagram etc.
The new terms are non negotiable you agree or leave. Plenty on the web about the details so I wont go into it here.
I know many will say so what? but I'm sure there will be plenty that will leave as I probably will.
Always thought Facebook buying whats app would bugger it up in the end, what are others using? Signal? Telegram?
Anyone else bothered?

Looks like Telegram is the better option versus Signal and WhatsApp

Tough isn’t it. Most people don’t care and will use WhatsApp regardless. Those that do care don’t agree on which platform to use instead.
The majority just click OK on that pop up so they could see their messages. They won’t see the pop up again.
Kind of hard to use your phone as a communicator if everyone you talk to uses an app that you don’t have installed anymore.

Doesn't affect UK and EU users.
Yes and no...If your details are on someone else's phone and they simply click through to 'allow', then any details about yourself which happen to be on that phone, are accessible. Though in theory, those details should be anonymised once harvested. Cambridge Analytica anyone?
Personally, I just see it as the start of a slippery slope.

Very true. You could always ask for a refund. Brainpox said:

Have SMS group chats got better now?

I've had Signal for ages, actually use it as my SMS app. had 1-2 contacts who had it installed, now have about 12 contacts who have it installed. Unfortunately none of them are people I chat to on whatsapp.
Are you using it as your SMS app on Android? I can't see an option for it on iOS.And I'm having a similar issue with my friends being on WhatsApp and not wanting to change over to another platform, though saying that I just opened it up and two contacts have appeared in Signal so maybe more will turn up in the future!

I've just installed it, and have several contacts already, pretty much all of whom work in IT, but I can see switching from WhatsApp being tricky due the number of friends who use it.RizzoTheRat said:
Given that the issue is them sharing data with Facebook, is it an issue at all for people who have Facebook accounts? Is there additional information they can harvest from Whatsapp that isn't already in a Facebook account?
What can WhatsApp access that Facebook can't - Errr... Lots. Address book, photos, location. Then there's also WhatsApp on the desktop.Facebook also has access to content but it depends on how detailed you've been with your profile. The other side of Facebook is it's accessed via a browser, which you can apply additional controls.

I've downloaded Signal and it seems almost a whatsapp clone. (A good thing!!)
It's only as good as your contacts who sign up though, at this point just 6 of my phone book have it.
I'm systematically trying to move a few of my more daily groups over to it as a 'test' which incidentally moves all my frequent contacts over too haha.
I really hate anything facebook owned, I have gone from being a frequent facebook user to pretty much a "happy birthday mate" type user - and what Dream Car giveaways draws...! I am looking forward to the day where I can leave it entirely without feeling like I will miss out on certain things. Then instagram will be next....

I tend to use Whatapp Web a fair bit, are there particular issues with that?

Surely a huge amount of people are using the Facebook app on their phone (over 5 Bn downloads on Google Play ), in which case they already have access to photos and location, and probably address book (not sure how that ties in with FB contacts)
...and that's a good thing?RizzoTheRat said:

You can't use WhatsApp web without the app on your phone and access to cookies. M
