ETH mining 101

My understanding is that nice hash and the pool take their cut. I think it is 1% of all revenue produced using their pool.
yes pools can very though. You can solo mine if you wanted but not worth it unless you have massive hash. The good thing is Nicehash will automatically switch to the most profitable coin.

I'm a bit of a mining noob having just received my first pay our this afternoon. I use a miner called t-rex and I mine for the Ethermine pool. You probably know all this but here is a summary of Ethermine.
"Ethermine is the most popular Ethereum mining pool, allows for anonymous mining with a real time PPLNS payout scheme. The pool prides itself with instant payouts as soon as the payout threshold has been met (minimum 0.05 ETH). The pool has a 1% fee and pays out for block rewards and fees as well. You can also mine Ethereum Classic, Zcash, Beam, Ravencoin and Ycash with Ethermine."
The are advanced ways of mining that are bit more risky but offer better rewards.
you can mine st coins yourself, but risky. Nicehash is mine and forget.
As a hobby it can be interested to spend a day having a go yourself on another coin, but you need an exchange account etc so is more hassle.

Thanks to this thread (and posters), I've put to work a couple of PCs in the house, running fairly conservative settings in afterburner to minimize electric costs and running temps. Some really useful information for a mining noob like me.
- 1060 GTX 6GB
- RX590
Using nicehash (as has been said, a doddle to setup) and seeing returns of 40-45MH/s across the two.

61 sounds good any oc settings?
It's a Zotac HoloMemory +1300-odd
Clock -300
Target temp 60C
I just googled what the approach should be and played around with it a bit, it's probably not 100% optimal but I doubt there's much more to be had, especially considering different algorithms might favour different settings and it can change at any time.
Anyway, it's really quiet and my PC runs 24/7 anyway so I'm happy to just leave it running.

It would also be interesting to monitor the temps when the weather gets warmer.

How's your fans?
Case fans are spinning, but barely audible. It's quieter than when the 1650 was in there!

Maybe I need to improve the circulation in my case.

Lucky you! Mine is almost always at 100%. All windows opened so the ambient temps are around 18C.

3090 VRAM temps are such a common topic for miners. Maybe I need to improve the circulation in my case.
My friend who is running his took the side off his case, pointed two extra 120mm fans just at the top of the gpu from outside the case and is about to take off the back plate, add better thermal pads and then put a heatsink on to the backplate aswell.
I am sure you will have already read up but there are ways around it to take it off the thermal limit of memory t-junction.

Yes, there is a very nice guide on NiceHash. I don't hit the memory thermal limits if I run the fans at max speed. My friend who is running his took the side off his case, pointed two extra 120mm fans just at the top of the gpu from outside the case and is about to take off the back plate, add better thermal pads and then put a heatsink on to the backplate aswell.

Future plan is to consider water cooling the 3090.
