So - will it be as "game changing" as rumours and the hype which is now starting would suggest ?

My vote is that it will be good, interesting, but probably 50% hype. It's just that Apple will prove again that they cannot do anything "new" but what they do do will be a huge step forward

Lossless audio to keep up with everyone else, and probably some stuff related to Apple / Beats specific kit.

Meh.

Yeah - I was/am a bit like that. But Spacial Audio (that I have tried only in AirPods Pro at the moment), and the Computational Audio as in HomePod Mini is quite a revelation in practice. And I am at least partly excited to see (hear) what else they can do......

Here it is, folks.

Sounds like they're leapfrogging the competition on this one....

Quite impressive 20mil songs by June for no additional cost to Apple Music subscribers and the full 75mil by the end of the year. I doubt I’ll notice the difference but as that’s all I listen to in the car anything better and free is surely good!

Lossless on an iPhone with AirPods. It's a bit like feeding strawberries to pigs, isn't it?

Great to see lossless Apple Music. Not because I’ll use it again (as the functionality was rubbish) but because it might help other services see sense and reduce prices.

I can't see I'll need my Tidal subscription when Apple launch lossless

Hmmm. Does that mean I can use the Dolby Pro Logic iiX setting on my car’s Meridian sound system? I can never work out if it needs to be encoded or not….

Or
Lossless on an iPhone through a high-end portable DAC with Audeze magnaplanars, will that do?

Airplay is lossless no?

Not that I’d tell the difference from 320, with my aging ears.

It's a shame their algorithm is simply poor compared to Spotify.

It's a chore finding new music with Apple, as the recommendations are garbage. Spotify gets inside your brain and knows exactly what sort of music you like, and finds great new stuff weekly.

Yeah, but why not just ditch the phone and get a dedicated DAP if spending that sort of money?

So that’s great for the 0.001%. Meanwhile everyone else is playing through headphones or a bluetooth speaker. Will it make any difference

AirPods wont support lossless only spatial “Dolby” audio. Guess CarPlay wont support lossless then.

Amazon have already matched Apple and dropped charging extra for their HD/lossless offering. Probably won’t be long before Google does too which just leaves Spotify who are the only big player that perhaps doesn’t have the funds to cover the additional bandwidth required to do it for free.

This makes sense really, have to give mobile operators something to use to encourage take up of more expensive 5G plans.

I'd tend to agree with this.. Discover Weekly has been consistently great for me.. I always find songs on there that I like.

How big of a market of Apple users are there that are actually going to see the benefits from lossless? As noted above AirPods (all versions, including the new Max) don't support it.

Is that the faux-lossless format that isn't everything it's touted to be!
