And if you want both go for the Sony over-ear model - the WH range. I've got the XM3's (and XM2's for that matter) and they are a fantastic set of cans, excelling in both NR and sound quality.

Was potentially looking for some of the in-ear ones for golf - do I assume they aren't as good as their big brothers?

People who wear the over ear versions when out and about just look ridiculous in my opinion. The in ear Sonys are rubbish for noise cancellation which is why they went back swiftly

Yeah I agree with that but faffing around for ages trying to get the seals right is a pain. The test in the app doesn’t work well either

And in less than a month the left ear unit on the Bose has failed. Refuses to charge and therefore is dead. Cant fault amazon though. Reported it today and will get a set of replacements tomorrow then send the faulty ones back.

Thought I’d resurrect this thread as was looking at the Sonys but some reviews about them not fitting properly and falling out. Also looking at the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 which get good reviews.
Any real world experience?

The Bose units talked about here have been updated too since the thread so may want to look at those

I have the Sony XM4 and for walking around the noise cancelling isn't very good, not as good as Bose. It does work and it is effective but it doesn't do it anywhere near as well as Bose or possibly even Apple. On a plane, long haul flight, the noise cancelling was fantastic, the background hum and general engine and wind noise was reduced to a very low level so perhaps the Sony algorithm is just looking at different types of noise from Bose ? If noise cancelling of voice and road traffic is your top requirement then get the Bose.

But if sound quality is important then the Sony is miles better, massive improvement over Bose as usual.

I got the XM4 in a sale at John Lewis for about £180 I think earlier this year.

I’m mainly interested in NC for the plane/train so not too bothered elsewhere.
I was definitely going down the Sony route until I saw a few reviews about their fit. But most reviews don’t mention it so I’ll think I’ll take a chance with them. Seem to be £199 in most reputable places.

If the fit is an issue you get some bespoke ear pieces made for them for about £50 from a decent audiology / hearing aid place

I had the Bose, just couldn't get them to fit, at all. In the end I gave them to my wife and bought the Sony's.

They fit really well from the off. I have bought some Comply tips and the make them very comfortable for long periods.

So, I guess different ears, different fits, some will get on with one make, some the other, some either. Unfortunately you tend not to know until you've bought some.

ANC doesn't ever work that well against voices, or any dynamic sounds really.
