Thanks both, will investigate.

@Brainpox yeah I scored the 3070FE on release day and was running it with a 6th gen i7 I think, went for the i5-12600K this time round as I figured it would be a better match. Just curious to see what's what with the games I'm playing, particularly in VR as I sometimes get some tearing or occasional screen blackouts in VR in more demanding games (DCSWorld mainly).
I’m relatively new to gaming pc’s and DCS. It was interesting to see how low the frames were dipping on the same settings as I had used for the 3080 12gb. I was frequently seeing some as low as high fifties in free flight over Syria.

I sort of expected it, but wished it wasn’t so. It ties in with what i keep hearing about DCS being poorly optimised. I was playing the multi threaded version too!

I am going to try the Meta Quest Pro as my first PCVR. I recently sent back the PSVR2 as i found the games and output underwhelming. Purchasing directly from Meta will cost £50 more than Amazon but they accept used returns if you are not happy.

I hope this copy and paste of a previous post works/helps

Which telegram channel are you following please?

This one now https://telegram-group.org/Telegram.php?id=7639

All the ones I looked at last night had no past activity showing in the app. I added the above using the link. Searching the name in the app didn’t work, because of the flame 🔥 that is in the name of the group I suppose.

I may be getting beaten into submission by NVidia's marketing strategy.

I see the 4070 is rumoured to come out Apr 13th at a $600 price point in the US (probably something like £549-ish here). Performance will basically be on par with a 3080 out of the box and has 12GB vs the 10GB of the original standard 3080. Also, only projected to consume 200W which is pretty excellent.

If I can get a good price on my 3070FE I might be tempted to try to grab a 4070FE when they come out. Only a 30% perf boost but if I can upgrade for a couple of hundred quid then worth it for the 50% ram boost and the low power consumption. Probably should be quite overclockable/under-voltable too with luck.

That all depends if the rumours on price and specs are true, of course.

Based on leaked tech specs Techpowerup has the 3080 18% up on a 4070.

After making do with a cobbled together PC with a 2060 super in, today I’ve pushed the button and ordered a whole new system with a 4070Ti in.

This was mostly prompted by getting The Last Of Us and having to have the wall textures turned so far down they looked like they’d been drawn on Paint. I swear they looked worse than the PS3 version.

It's an unoptimised mess that game, changing cards won't solve it.

Oh I know TLOU needs a lot of work but the PC was well overdue for a replacement anyway

TLOU is doesn't perform consitently on my 4080FE so don't expect miracles

Having tried it today with the settings on a mixture of Ultra/High it’s night and day compared to how it was before. The wall/sign textures were so bad before that you couldn’t even read the signs.

I know the game needs a lot of work (which I’m sure will happen) but it’s a much better experience now and I needed a replacement machine anyway. It was well overdue

Yeah don't get me wrong, on a High End GPU it looks AMAZING especially when compared to the original game.

My issue is that one moment im getting 100FPS smooth as butter and the next thing you know you're fighting a clicker at 3FPS

There's been an update released for Cyberpunk that enables path tracing for 4000 series (and 3090ti). You need frame gen and upscaling to get it working smoothly but it's an excellent showcase for the tech. Depending on who you believe path tracing is the final step to getting realistic lighting in video games, it can't get any better - but we'll see laugh

Interestingly, they've also enabled DLAA, but that requires rendering the game at full resolution and then applying some extra processing, so it runs pretty poorly even on my 4090 at 1440p. Better than standard anti aliasing I guess, but I've been running DLSS Quality for the same effect anyway.

RTX 4070 to be released tomorrow, RRP 600 quid. Shame I just took the plunge on a 4080 at double that, but I suspect the 4070 will be so trimmed down (since the 4070Ti is already well below the 4080) I might not regret it.... 600 quid is still pretty expensive for a 070 class card, but not as mad as the 4080/4090...

So I’ve decided to go for a 4070 to replace my 2070 Super. My 2070 cost around £550 so seems like half decent value …. So I certainty can’t be arsed to be sat pressing F4 on some site to buy one.

I’m flying home from the Canaries tomorrow what are the chances I will just be able to pick one up ?

If I can’t just buy one then fk it I’ll stick with the 2070 S I’m sick of all this short supply scalper bullst.

Oh what could I expect to get for the 2070 Super ?

Good chances, depends on non FE prices, I'd say £50 on top of MSRP at least. Scan already have a load listed without prices. Plus I'm sure the FE cards will hang around long enough to get the alert and buy one.

Average sold prices seem to be around £220-£230, some higher some lower, due to time of day auction completion, weather, drunk bidding etc... - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=2070+super&...
