Despite only having my 660 Tuono for a few months, these have caught my interest. What really interested me though was my insurance quote was cheaper for a 1290 SDR than the 660, bizarre.
So YouTube etc followed, could be my kind of bike. I've ridden an 890 Duke and was very impressed with the engine, the 1290 must be hilarious.
My riding tends to be the odd commute, and shortish blats on back roads - always loved V twins and grunt over top end rush.
I'm a naked bike lover, in the past I've had;
- Ducati Streetfighter 1098 - great bike but I never really gelled with it 100%, dont know why
- various Speed Triples, 955, 1050 - always loved them, little underpowered perhaps.
- Ducati Diavel - an utter beast but I couldnt get past the stupidly harsh ride
I've also ridden Fireblades and an S1000RR for context, but I think I'll stick with upright bikes.
Looking at prices, a gen 1 seems to be £8k or so, gen 2 £10k or so - I probably want the better electronics so was leaning towards a 2018 or so bike.
However there are some brand new gen 3 evo bikes available for £14.5k or so at the moment which is tempting, but does Euro 5 make these a duller bike?
Any experiences welcome :-)

Have a ride of one. I found the throttle quite artificial feeling but think I would get used to it.
I think I'm still going to buy one.
I've been watching the market closely and think dealers are keen to shift stock before the facelift bike comes on sale next year.
That being said I think you'll do well to find a new Evo OTR for less than £15k. I certainly haven't seen any although ex-demos are around the figure you quote.
Edited to add - with the Tech Pack which you want and even if you didn't would affect resale if you didn't have it. Retail the Tech Pack is £1,100 I think but I've seen deals at around £600 and some as a package which would ultimately be less.

I've got a 2020 Gen3, and it's by far the best road bike I've owned. It's not as razor sharp as a sportsbike handling wise, but would it ever be?
It's a pussycat around two, and once you wind it on it's brutal, other than the slightly newer Evo (which is the same bike with electronic suspension) I cannot see me moving to anything else.
The Gen3 does get a swingarm pivot unlike earlier generations, and different ergo's more weight on your wrists (nothing compared to an sportsbike though).
Tech pack is a must, and heated grips out of the box, plus 3rd party stuff like rad guard, tail tidy, exhaust, usual stuff.

They're really very good. I've done videos on the regular one and the Evo – really couldn't fault the standard bike's suspension so the Evo just felt a bit expensive by comparison. There are some really good deals on them over winter, I'm half tempted to chop my 1290 SAS in for one. There are spyshots of the next SDR and it looks horrific…
There is a cheap one on auto trader (not evo) and it has my favourite exhaust .. austin racing ... sounds epic...

I like your reviews - so you’d trade the practicality of the Superadventure for the slightly more unhinged nature of the SDR?

I would trade it… But I'd caveat that by saying the Super Adventure is such a complete bike and I love it. But y'know, it's the time of year where I convince myself I definitely need to change my bike, usually for something less practical. Weirdly I've just had a message from a journo friend who's handing back his (free) Super Adventure that he's run this year and he's trying to talk me into keeping mine.Part of me thinks I've only done 3000 miles this year, so I don't need such a practical bike. And I like the idea of getting some luggage on the SDR, fitting heated grips and doing a mix of trackdays and short tours. Thanks for watching the videos by the way, wouldn't wish that on anyone.
