I use newpipe on android as an alternative player to youtube. the downside is you don't sign in so your subscriptions aren't there but you can export them from google and import them. Other benefits are you can download video or audio for use offline.
Smartube keeps your subscriptions.
I tried to use Smartube a couple of years ago but was very unstable. Is it better now?

I don't watch YouTube on my phone, only on my home PC.
Same, on my PC I have all the blockers, and I refuse to use Youtube on my phone, never seen any ads on my Youtube. - When other people are showing me videos on their phones the advert-density is just absolutely mindblowing. - Same when I visit people that are using their TV as background noise 24/7, the constant advert carpet bombing is just staggering and drives me up the wall in minutes.

If I had no blockers, I would just download videos off my subscription page and watch them offline.

Maybe youtube has an algorithm that recognises intensive use and ramps up ads and the 'one month premium free offer' - I get this option a lot.

Privacy Protector Adblocker 1.0.2 has stopped working on YouTube today. Google has said it contains Malware so I have gone into Extensions and enabled Adblock Plus - free ad blocker 4.9.3 which was previously turned off as YouTube was giving me the "turn off your adblocker" whilst freezing video's.

Ad block 4.9.3 still gets that freeze video pop up. It's not consistent though, it might go all week before it does it.
I also use another browser, not signed into youtube with the same ad block on. That's never had the pop up.
Make sure to update ad block. Cog top right > Advanced > Update all filter lists. smile

Mine is still working well with adblock, Ghostery and Ublock Origin blocking 100% of YouTube adverts.

Anyone noticed the absence of ads on YT recently? I'm not getting any at all on either my Android phone or my PC.
Something changed and the adverts resumed on both my PC and phone but then I rebuilt my PC to Win11 and I no longer get ads on that using Chrome with no adblocker.

My Android phone does get ads though.

Using Ghostery & uBlock Origin and I agree, nothing seen from youtube and I spend about 4hrs a night on it as its virtually replaced "TV" for me by now.

Adblock is still working for me, desktop and laptop ( both Win 11).

WHen I canst to TV (and consequently use the TVs youtube) the ad frequency is indeed absurd to the point they are clearly saying subscribe or bugger off.

Yep, all fine an the PC (wich ist the only place I watch Youtube), Ublock does the job flawlessly. - In comparison I was visiting friends yesterday after work, and their TV was on a Youtube loop as some sort of background noise, the resulting advert carpet-bombing was absolutely mindblowing and relentless.
