I joined the crowd funding for this last year:

It does health stuff as well as payment. - which was a bonus for me as I wanted a wearable fitness tracker that wasn't a watch as I still like to wear a 'real' watch.

Well... it will when it ships - it's 4 months late already.
I like the look of this one as it claims to monitor blood pressure, but I think I'd want to see some reviews/verification that it's accurate first.

Well that's disappointing.

I just got an email from McClear Ringpay saying they are closing down and my ring will cease working from the end of October. Any funds in my account will be returned, as will a pro rata amount for the cost of the hardware.

Just this afternoon I've used it several times and even had a chat with several people in the pub about it, having used it to pay for a pint and bag of crisps. I bloody love it and will miss it.

frown

Oh well, time to go the whole hog and get chipped I suppose.

Likewise, got the email today and have turned off the auto top-up. Shame as it has been useful and unusual.

Balls.

That's the one I was fancying, just hadn't got round to actually buying it yet. I guess I kind of dodged a bullet... But at least it sounds like they are being reasonable with the refunds.

I didn't realise they were still a thing. I used to have a K-Ring back in the day. They too ceased trading.

Was quite a good thing to have, but I guess smart watches have overtaken them.

Yeah I got one because I don’t want a smart watch, I can’t abide the constant interruption of the damn things. However the convenience of the ring is great.

I understand. However, the watch does so much more, and you can decide what it interrupts you for.

Not saying that's better, necessarily, but it would seem most people do and there is no gap for a payment ring anymore.

Got the email too. Unfortunately I sometimes work in an area where phone and smart watches are disallowed. The ring was a great bypass to the rule and still having access to money.

Need to find another way I guess.

I really like mine.
Got the email about it being cancelled, what alternatives are there?

I put off having a smartwatch for years, but having finally got an Apple Watch a few months ago, I haven’t worn any of my ‘real watches’ for more than a day or two since. Payment is one of the best things, double click the side button and hold the watch near the reader. Beep, done. Also I can use it to approve multi-factor authentication requests when logging into work computers, much easier than fishing around for my phone to get a code.

Looks good to me, just ordered a ring and keyfob as they're both reduced at the moment.

I have the new Galaxy Watch 7, it's one of my favourite things, it's just ace. The trick if you don't like being bothered is to setup the notifications so that you only get them from the apps you want to prioritise, I have pretty much just phone and WhatsApp able to send notifications to my watch. Then because you can go out and leave your phone at home, you're not getting constant notifications at all. I only take my phone out with me now if I need it for navigation in the car, want to use the camera or will be sat bored waiting for something at some point, the watch has everything else covered.

I was intrigued by the Galaxy ring though, I've no intention of buying it, but I did wonder why you would given how good the watches are now. Not sure the improved health tracking gives you much over the watch and that's about the only area where it has any advantage.

I bought a Galaxy Ring simply because I didn't want a smart watch. Tried them a few times over the years, but would rather stick with my phone and mechanical watches.

Same here, I have had a Fitbit for the last 7 years but never wear that and a mechanical watch together. I like it for sleep tracking mainly so would be an ideal customer for a smart ring but not seen anything come to the market to challenge Oura in this space.

I heard the galaxy ring is not compatible with apple, did you find this to be the case?

Dunno, I use mine with my Z Fold 5. My iPhone is strictly for work stuff.
